grave-groping > funeral > phone call > money > mansion > PIRATES.
Review:
Vonwert definately makes some of the most unique and deep games on RPG Maker. Cursed Desires continues that great tradition.
Originality: 20 points out of a possible 20
NOBODY other than Vonwert makes this type of game. Serious mystery games filled with creative puzzles. Not many games focus on pirate history, either.
Design: 20 out of a possible 20
Cursed Desires is without a doubt the best looking game ever made with RPG Maker. The attention to detail is staggering. Not looking vacant or cluttered, the environments look natural and real. We all know how limited the software is when it comes to graphics, but Vonwert made the best of what was there, and added in what wasnt there himself with a lot of custom sprites. Part of the fun of the game is just looking around, exploring everything. That normally gets pretty boring in other RPG maker games.
Writing: 17 out of a possible 20
There are quite a few spelling errors, but they dont really get in the way that much. the characters are well written, and the game has some very well done descriptive dialogue. You also learn quite a bit about pirates courtesy of some journal entries early on in the game, and I applaud the amount of research that alone must have taken to properly implement into the game.
Gameplay: 19 out of a possible 20
Most of the gameplay comes from solving a large variety of puzzles. some are extremely simple, some will take quite a while to figure out. luckily, they're never overly complicated, and you're able to figure out the solution just by experimenting, rather than screaming "WHAT DOES THIS DAMN GAME WANT ME TO DO?" like a lot of other "puzzle" games (RPGM or otherwise) make me do. They're also a bunch of fun. And they don't seem out of place in the game world at all! big bonus!
Overall Presentation: 19 out of 20
I love this game. The only problem with it is the spelling errors. if you can overlook those (as well you should!) you'll have a lot of fun with this game.
Final Score: 95
The best looking game ever made with RPG Maker, tons of fun, and a genuinely interesting story... the future looks very bright for this game.
