Re: Trade Shop
You choose the item you want, and then it brings up a list of your own items. You just increase the amount of your own items you're willing to trade in for the item you want. And... I'm not sure how best to describe this last part... Up top, it shows how many of the items you want are worth what you've tried to trade in so far. Basically it's "I'll sell these items in exchange for that one", and you skip the exchange of money in the process.
If you're willing to wait, I actually use the trading system in the episode of my LP that's due to air next week."What if like...there was an exact copy of you somewhere, except they're the opposite gender, like you guys could literally have a freaky friday moment and nothing would change. Imagine the best friendship that could be found there."

Re: Trade Shop
Yeah, it's basically a barter system. I'm not really sure what's the point unless you want to have the player trade items without using money, since the items you're trading with are only worth half their value, like if you were selling them for cash.
If you don't want to wait for Draygone's LP, my demo for Terrin's Hunt uses trade shops.

Re: Trade Shop
Well, the game I played through uses money as a variable, so the trade function was pretty necessary.
I suppose, if you wanted, you could also just use it as a gimmick, where you maybe have regular items at stores all over the place, but there's the one shop with rare items that you can only trade for.
Basically, it's not a feature you need to use, but you have available if you wanted."What if like...there was an exact copy of you somewhere, except they're the opposite gender, like you guys could literally have a freaky friday moment and nothing would change. There's that.Originally posted by Draygone View PostWell, the game I played through uses money as a variable, so the trade function was pretty necessary.
Another use I've considered is related to the whole barter point I brought up before; you can use the trade shop in a remore or primitive community where it logically doesn't make sense for the inhabitants to be using money. It doesn't fix all the problems with the shop not making sense, but it alleviates it a little.I suppose, if you wanted, you could also just use it as a gimmick, where you maybe have regular items at stores all over the place, but there's the one shop with rare items that you can only trade for.

Re: Trade Shop
I used the barter shop as a bonus. You can find some pretty goods items in dungeons, but not a whole set, but with the barter shop, players can outfit the whole team with high end equipment.
It also somewhat helped boost up the levels which was needed in the one game I was proud of, because I set the only enemies in the final dungeon to be "carbon copies" of the final boss, so characters gained little exp/gold attempting it.
I guess I just really wanted to force the issue of needing to find the "hidden" city and the trade shop it contained.A God from the Machine - Menander
