Anyone have trouble with generic (non-Sony) memory cards?

i purchased a couple of those cheap no-name 32MB cards through Amazon, and after i tried to save my game to them i couldn't re-load from the cards.

also my other generic card (128MB) loads and saves fine, but my Shark Port doesn't wanna recognize the card at all...

Just wondering if anyone else had similar experiences, and if a standard Sony 8MB card is the way to go. Thanks!

Those are the standard generic memory card stories. They're not worth the savings, since they're more than likely going to corrupt or erase your saves.

Yeah, ever since a generic card corrupted both a save file and its two backups of Final Fantasy 8 (I was halfway through the third disk!), I've made certain to avoid non-Sony cards whenever possible. I even went through the effort of buying a whole box of PS1 cards: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...ryCardsx12.jpg

Cost me $100, but they're worth it.

And just think...a PS3 is only $300, and you get unlimited PS1 memory cards!

and no PS2 memory cards, which is bad for an RPGM3 user.

I have two generic PS1 cards that always worked like crap and contstanly corrupted saves. I only use them these days for storing RPGM games, usually if I copy a file to one they don't corrupt, only when I try to save a game. They're good enough that I don't have to use up my good PS1 cards for the games. My good cards are also third party, but they're made by Interact and they never have given me serious problems.

All my PS2 cards are first party. I already experienced the problems of third party cards, and so I avoided them.

There are a few brands of third party cards that are considered reliable, but the vast majority of them are crap. And the high capacity cards are almost always not worth the trouble; having 32 or 64 MB or whatever on a card isn't wrth having to play the game over when the card eats the game.

Another problem is that the most recent models of the PS2 doesn't recognize third party cards (at least cards for PS1). Not good.

I thought Microsoft was the only one pulling that stunt. What a load of crap.

If there's a version of the PS2 that doesnt recognize third party cards, sony is doing the consumer a favor. they'll know the card is crap before they have the chance to have their data corrupted.

thesere's no reason a console manufacturer should be expected to make sure defective products work on it.

                      I have a third-party memory card, 64 megabytes. I don't recall the manufacturer.

It works perfectly fine except for slightly longer saving/loading times. And I've had it for a couple years now.
