    Strategic Active Positional Battle System!

Yes, I have just made something in RPGM3 that is similar to an action battle/chess-like game system for some bosses.
To do this you need a 3*5 game field (dungeon) and touch eventson every square except the the boss. More to Come.
Here it Comes! Each Event around the enemy has a choice to attack, move one space, or block an incoming attack. After your turn, the enemy attacks, uses an attack based of of which square you are moving to.( Yes, an internal variable). Sometimes it will hit, sometimes it won't. Depends entirely on where you started from, and where you are going. Also, don't try to move two squares. You won't have an attack option, and each tile has a trap that does 5000 damage to the party (i.e. enough to kill you.) The internal variable of your character stores LP as well, and another shared variable stores Enemy LP. If your LP goes to 30 (5 hits) you die! If your enemy's LP reaches 300(50 hits), you win. Oh, yeah. Did I tell you that this was the last boss for Fall of The Kings!

Sounds pretty cool. I'd like to hear more about how it plays though. How far are you in working on it?

"Strategic Active Positional"? Oh, I get it!

        SAP!

All joking aside, This sounds pretty cool! Can this be modified to be played outside of a dungeon? Like on field maps and in towns and buildings?

Yes, it can, but you will only get the Choice menu when you touch a ? dot.
You can go up to the enemy and attack him, though.
          Summary: Hell Yes!

I did something similar to this (albeit text-based) in a few of my minigames in A Series Aside. So doing something like this using character models is commendable. Good luck.

Okay, I have found other uses for this SAP system. Like the Presidential Game!
It would work for debates... or something... like that... or something....

Re: Strategic Active Positional Battle System!

This is the second working custom battle system I've seen that is actually good. This reminds me of one of the older final fantasy games. The only downside is the amount of events it would take to accomplish this.

Re: Strategic Active Positional Battle System!

Zaryn, it takes 15 events and one person to make a 3*5 system.
The 15 touch events bring up a menu of either Psycho Blade or Defend, or Attack or Defend. Attack does more damage, but Psycho Blade is more strategic, and keeps you out of most enemy attack range.

I'm sure once you get the system down pretty well, you can implement more features other than just attacking and defending.

                      Yeah, I can.
Aeroglide- Allows a double space move without setting off traps.
Earth Defender- Builds a large block to block attacks.
Psycho Blade- Attack from anywhere, but weak.

Does it Have to be 3 by 5? can you add a row or column or both?

Isn't that kind of a silly question?

(EDIT: If you've read the original post twice and STILL don't think it's a silly question, then the answer is no: it doesn't have to be 3x5. 4x4 or whatever, or even an irregular shape, will work as long as you have the events for it.)

Re: Strategic Active Positional Battle System!

All of the text-based "SAPs" I've made were 3x3, and pretty much maxed out all 20 modes and usually close to all 50 lines in one event. So depending on what you are attempting and how intricate it is, you can fit maximum a 3x3 in one event.

One of mine had 2 shops, about 6 houses and their interiors, 9 (3x3) outdoor areas and 9 NPCs within one event. The coding allowed for buying items/skills in the shops with 2 upgrades for each item/skill, and breaking into each house (it was based on being a thief), and trading items for money with various of the NPCs.

I bring this up because you say it'll take 14 events to make a 3x5. You can probably cram more into each event, and might end up.having to, as there is a limit of 20 events per area.

                              Aren't there 50 modes?
Now saying that you used 20 modes, I am using a similar amount for each event.
I will now make a...(:drum roll) list!!
                              1. Basic Menu
                              2. Menu with Blind Status (can't use attacks)
                              3. Menu with Seal Status (can't use magic)
                              4. Menu with Bind Status (can't move across field)
                              5. Attack
                              6-12.-Skills
                              12-20.-Movement
