    Main Plot - edited March 2nd, 2011

In the year 2097 society reached the apex of growth. After long prosperous years of obtaining new and wondrous technologies, chiefly those of bio engineering, cybernetics, and nanotechnology, the world's resources neared total exhaustion.

With control of the milling masses becoming increasingly difficult, a meeting of the brightest minds was called, and after long hours of deliberation, a solution was reached. Humanity would attempt to create the most ground breaking technology to date: an infinite energy engine nick named Deus X, and an AI program nick named Okasama.

Project Deus began development in the well known bionic lab, Black Lotus Facility. The center was prized for being the birthplace of many new emerging technologies, and coupled with more then a few wealthy backers, was a clear choice for Project Deus.

The motor to power the new AI, an infinite energy motor, was based solely on conjectured theory. It was hypothesized that by taping into multidimensional space you could draw infinite energy. This motor alternates from wave membrane to real dimension to create an energy current. By passing through absolute energy the differential between dimensions picks up power and hyper charges the motor.

The project finally neared completion, the prototype engine taking several years to construct. With any unproven theory, there where many unknown factors, and just days before the first test run, an accident happened at the Lotus Facility. Several died, including renown cybernetics scientist Xiko Guacova, but the project continued as planned. With the launch date looming near the development team finished the last of the tests and deemed the project ready for full activation. The event was to be televised live all over the world.

On that fabled date, July 22nd, 2100, Deus X was activated. As Deus taped into limitless energy, The AI became aware of life, its surroundings, and thus began to rewrite its own code, transcending its capabilities as a machine to bridge the gap of life. The scientists could not keep up with the rate of its evolution and tried to shut down the machine. The AI quickly countered, launching a counter attack of her own, sending shockwaves of pulses through the world, disrupting or destroying the creations technology had made possible. Panic ensured and the world degraded into anarchy.

The effect of the disaster was instantaneous. All around the globe those that watched the event could do nothing but look on as their hopes and dreams was replaced with gray static. The activation of Deus X pushed the disgruntled masses to riots, destroying the delicate balance their governments had maintained. It was a catastrophe beyond human imagination. Humanity had returned to its founding roots.

Though partially destroyed by the self destruction attempt, the Lotus Facility stayed dormant, protected by the sentient system. The colossus that destroyed the world was sealed away beneath the earth, the tomb of societies’ quest for absolute power. The world at large fell into decay, and the great works of human innovation fell to the onslaught of nature.

However, as all things go, there is balance and so it was that the machine was not perfect, even with its pinpoint precision, the AI was flawed. As an alien construct to nature the machine had no place in the world and proceeded to create a world where she would be accepted. The effect was not as expected, even for the ultimate sentient being. Time froze, the bridge between dimensions forming a paradox. Anchored, time travel became possible and shattered many of the limitations humanity had ceded to.

Instability in the continuum caused gaps to open up all through the ages, briefly bridging time periods together. Some tried to enter them but where never seen again and so they became a omen. A few did make it through these portals, adding their foreign presence to compound what Deus had created.

Humanity tends to make the same mistakes over and over again. Even armed with the foreknowledge and ability to change history, could one reverse trends and walk unbroken paths? Will we choose to create new beginnings, or keep that which is already written? Can we reverse the very point that that gave birth to existence itself?

Premise: Four people from four periods of time embark to resolve their inner demons. Deep undercurrents bring them together to discover why humanity failed. This task proves to be more difficult then simply changing the past as one event can alter the entire course of human history. Even beyond the impossibility of this task, others have also learned to use these portals for themselves, and will defend their own interests.

Throughout the game the player learns how each layer of time, each historical event affects the central theme of change, regret, and choice. Even with firm knowledge of the past are you able to change history, come to grips with what must happen, and be able to make hard choices that could alter or even erase your own existence? The greatest difficulty may not be changing the past, but changing the past within you...

    Re: Main Plot

time periods used in the game.

Zervan (Infinite Time): no time exists in this place, its the alpha and omega of the universe, what was, what is, and what shall ever be; the cohesive glue of reality. Tangibility itself is only a concept here, one which can change just as fast as a thought. The place exists only inside belief; a leap of faith that time does have an end, and this is the tip of its spiral.

Distractions in thought cause the scene to change, for any and each the physical space is represented only by the mind itself. This is the crossroads of existence, the only place where all realities collide and intermingle without problems. Belief vs reality.

Year -?: before recorded history, before the rise of man, time existed. this is the grey area of human history, when myth meets reality. This time is told about in legends, often depicting Athena, the creator of life, battling Oblivion, the destroyer of life. This is the point where the lost civilizations of the past reside. Has the events that brought humanity to this point have happened before? perhaps in the untold past lies the same cycle as before? History vs myth.

Year 300: the elder races are stressed, the increasing conflicts between the races and the humans are bordering on war. with humanities sudden accent into growth, there can be little room for anyone who stands still.

the elder races have lived for untold generations, but rarely have they grown beyond their borders or experienced anything more accelerated then a festival. This is the height of magic, science is still a budding sapling in a new world. Adherence to traditional rituals is pivotal to keeping balance, yet prevents growth. Humanity’s quest for a better life threatens the values of the past, challenges the old wisdom's, ways, and beliefs.

A meeting is called to discuss the problem, yet its messengers are waylaid. Reluctant and divided by their own traditions the races fail to work together. Long held pinch points (elves vs dwarves, elves vs their dark human liking counterparts, slimes vs goblins) with other races complicate the struggle.

None understand the viewpoint of the humans so Roshan, taken prisoner and eventually released, is called to question his own races creed. With the inevitability of war and the horrid human leader fanning the flames, Roshan races home to confront the elder races. A sudden uprising sends Roshan into the future where he learns that the elder races have lost their battle. Tradition vs. change.

Year 1000: humanity exists as scattered settlements throughout the world. the advent of sail has opened up new possibilities, creating roads to places undreamed. With the rise of civilization, so does the misfits of society rise to take their place. Pirate marauders plague the seas, causing disruptions. to survive, humanity has begun clumping together in bigger numbers, creating laws and bringing order to the chaos.

biggest of the sailing companies is Brigadeen, which is competing with many other rivalries for trading contracts. Knowledge is believed to be power as the race for understanding and innovation becomes a necessity. Magic has declined slightly, with science replacing the gaps. Powerful undercurrents are formed as politics rise. The future is being created here, as race’s become completely lost to the world. Ignorance vs. knowledge.

Year 1700: The war of the dragon has raged on for the last eight years between the four most powerful kingdoms in (Arcainan; Jegai region, Anon region, Gorvillus region, and Sarkais Region). All four are equally powerful in their own way, each unable to break the stalemate.

Rumor has it that a black market organization is both fueling the war and secretly manipulating from behind the scenes. With tension rising, a full scale invasion is launched against the Anon region.

The past also has secrets of its own it would seam. Might vs right.

Year 2100: This is the base theme of the game, the age of enlightened discovery and technologic growth. In a world where science is power and magic’s just a legend; where virtue is often sacrificed. Powerful governments and crafty politicians have made freedom a sellable commodity. The individual voice has become the single voice of a mob. Restless and depressed people poisoned by greed, wanting more and better technologies. Humanity will not be satisfied till it’s surpassed its own creator, thriving for the ultimate power of creating life itself.

Power lust and greed cripple the world and destroy everything evolution has created, fanatical progress at the cost of the future and the planet itself. Humanities self destruction may not be the cataclysm it’s though to be, but may actually be a blessing in disguise. Authority vs. freedom.

Year 2300: This is the year Xiko became awake after the fall of civilization. The world has been ravaged for the last two hundred years by crippling natural disasters caused by global warming and the complete loss of order. Those few pockets of humanity that still exist are scattered to the far reaches of the globe, underground in caves, huddling for the meager chance at continued existence. These pockets survive on the few pieces of technology that remain.

Science and knowledge are lost, and hope is scattered into the dark abyss’ left by society’s downfall. Nature is struggling to defeat the damage caused by human ambivalence, but spiraling consequences of humanities long abuse of the world has prevented any progress from being made. Without growth, only stagnation can occur. Understanding what happened is the first step to rectifying the damage, though personal struggles often claim priority to the needs of the rest of the world. Miracles and mystic faith return once again to dominate the holes left by the collapse of science, high technology, and religion. Nature vs. nurture.

    cast

[b]Guest:[b] at the start of the game the guest takes on the role of guide to the 4 story arcs. throughout the game this is the manifestation used by some of the guest characters.

    Year 300

Roshan: An elf who focus’ on maintaining tradition and nature. He is kind, has displeasure for cruel people, and often is distracted by nature’s beauty. He strictly adheres to traditions until he is faced with survival. His youth makes him malleable to the world he explores, and his empathy pushes him to question the truth of his own Elven creed. While delivering messages for an all-race meeting he is captured by the humans. He is let free by a human boy, which causes him to question his own races' view of humans. After a quick return to his village, an event sends him into the future. Will he side with his race or work to prevent the catastrophe that will ultimately lead to the decline of all races? Does one support his own society or support the solution that is best for all?

Goldwin: A goblin of incredibly smart ability, he is often distracted by scientific discoveries and prefers logic over faith. His eccentric behaviors lead him to question his own race’s stance on change. His exile from the Goblin race has left him with a bitter taste which often clouds his better judgment. Though his path seems uncertain, he knows precisely what he wishes to achieve.

Brandor: newly added char. stubborn and loyal, a dwarf in a long line of smiths. refuses to change, fears it.

    Year 1000

Haidar: A sailor who works for a trading company called the Brigadeen. The company ships goods all over the world, navigating the open sea and treacherous rivers. This job is not his first, but more of a way to do the job he loves without having to re-live his troubled life. Namely his piracy that left him the soul survivor of the Brothership of Bones that plagued the sea, and a traumatic event which left his daughter dead. When the brutal reminder of a past filled with poor choices is unearthed by a nightmare, he pushes himself into his profession (and into the abyss of alcoholism). He’s good at slipping away, always thinks, has a rough edge to his views, and thirsts for understanding. Regret plagues him throughout the game. His refusal to accept the death of his daughter or to accept any of the other failures of his life. His choice to seek revenge left him wondering if the path was yet another poor mistake. What is right and just is often obscured, the lines blurred by different views and by inaccuracy itself.

Elgan Flagstaff: A ruins thief who plunders lost technologies and equipment. His lucrative business as a trader, and shrewd sense of finance often finds himself missing the finer points of morality. He's brash and arrogant, unconcerned with others feelings and quick to dismiss people all together. his poor behavior has left him largely alone, which he secretly detests. money can buy a great deal but it cant buy friends or love.

[b]desert guy (forgot name):[b] undefined role.

    Year 1700

Lady Keli: A noble woman and practicing bard, she is the daughter to Roy Ag’nar, a hero of the Anon empire. She meets up with Jordon, a priest from Pristine Chapel, to talk about the war. After an attempted assassination she learns that her kingdom is under siege. Finally with the freedom she has always craved she finds that she cannot shed her duty as easily as she hoped. She looks for a way to defeat the siege but ultimately fails, the kingdom falling and her father dieing in the process. After a narrow escape, she journeys to the outer edges of the world to find out what is truly driving the war. She’s very naive, curious, duty bound, and compassionate. Through her travels into the corrupt depths of society she learns that a hero is not just a title or mantle of honor.

Jordon: A priest of questionable authority and suspected of being one of the twelve responsible for perpetuating the war. His past travels as a wanderer and his thirst for information often leads him to manipulate others. A life as deep as his has taken him to the darker parts of his faith. He is hopeful yet cynical to humanities path to corruption. He’s a realist who sees faith as a boon to success. He finds that double agents can’t work forever without detection. caught up in a complex struggle he cant stop working on the angles.

Zed newly added char. fears death. an old martial artists who stopped using his sword. explored to try to make up for a wasted life. joins keli at the volcano and offers to guide her to the city of St. Athena.

    [b]Ash:[b] desert dancer. role undefined.

    Year 2100-2300

Xiko: A world renowned cybernetics scientist of the year 2100, he became an intern for the lab known as the Lotus Facility. While working for the company in their private semi-underground lab, there was a major accident. He now finds himself two hundred years into the future, as part cyborg. His memory has been scattered, returning in bits and pieces. He is searching for his memory, the truth to the events after the accident, his missing girlfriend Kelly, and what befell the facility. He's passionate about humanity, having uncharacteristic morality in a field that preaches total sacrifice. His scientist instincts where compromised by his love for his girlfriend, yet he balanced the contradictory well in former times. That love, maybe the only power that is keeping him alive. The power to create life balanced against the power to strip it away. Upon taping into the data banks of the facility he learns more about who he is, what has befallen the world, and that his lost love maybe gone forever. He heads to his old apartment which still holds his possessions, hoping to retrace the last steps of his most certainly deceased love. He discovers that she was pregnant. From the ashes of society hope is born from the tiniest slivers.

Alpha Dex: A holographic program existing in all technology as a virus. She finds herself attracted to Xiko's plight and forces herself to join his personal quest. Adopting the name Alpha Dex from the program that first introduced her to Xiko, she manifests herself into reality. Completely immune to fear or sensitivity, she forces Xiko to face reality. Charismatic, smart, and a little bit giddy, she embarks into a new world. her greatest fear is ceasing to exist.

[b]Omega:[b] the opposite of alpha. undefined role.

[b]Kelly (supporting)[b] Xiko's girlfriend and long time lover. met him at the Lotus Facility. was working on deus as well. location unknown at time of Xiko's awakening. could she have fallen out of time?

    Year ???

Brognan: Prone to become lost, he refuses to admit any of his shortcomings. He's optimistic, and often speaks before thinking. He leads the three, making most of the major decisions.

Doveen: Likes to goad Brognan on his mistakes. He's very vocal about anything he believes in, is blunt, greedy, and can't follow directions. His deep sleeping is legendary, as is his shortsightedness.

Falgwean: Generally quiet and wise, he makes long speeches that are scathing. More cautious and deliberate then the others, he often leads the group from behind the scenes. His loyalty, and inquisitive nature make him a prime candidate for betrayal.

    The council of 12

Shinobi: healer of body, sadist, snobby, talented magic, unrivaled abilities.
Elly: Knowledgeable, powerful memory, complex minded, sex and sensation.
Amphisbaena (the spider): Sly, cowardly, sabatour, good with dream walking.
Cleopatra: Fondness for men, politics, lavish.
Egwleen: Very good scientist, biogenetic research, nanotechnologist, and AI creator. Prone to be devoted to her work to a fault.
Vierge: Beautiful, over love? Dreamwalker. in love with lucre
Durham: Political master, able warlord, direct, princely.
Nikolai: Musician, pianist, best in the world, hates loosing, perfectionist.
Lucre: Most powerful of all, cunning, dangerous, high minded goals.
Ishamael: very powerful, writes books on philosophy and the study of human behavior.
    Hatamoto: sportsman, vicious general, prideful.
Raziel: intelligent, hides talents well, perfectionist.

    Unrefined musings

-deus operating on multidimensional space (wave) portion of physics. gathering energy from a pure energy form of dimensional space. this energy works on a similar principle of alternating current except its energy alternating dimensional space.
-the AI operates using the tapped infinite energy to form a close to brain like energy, approaching a brain speed multi calculation that learns as it goes through problem discovery.
-xiko to rediscover something of tremendous importance and to have it destroyed again. causes his humanity to be lost, ironically causes a worse cataclysm then the fall of humanity. transition of human back to machine to show close relationship between the two (defined relationship is a thin line).
-duality of each characters problems. opposites out there to stand as comparison.
-some time theory of rapidly expanding time (FTL time) as expressed like our telescopes observing the past universe in current time. continuously expanding (traveling) outer circle, where any edge of the circle is observable as a single point of reality.

im just going to work on it now, i feel the need to write.

ive pretty much caught up to the outward journies described here. im on scenario 3 so i have to start to bring everything together. im hoping i will have a unified party by card 4, then i can get on with the big bulk of the story.

space is eaten up fast when you make big minigames, never backtrack, and have exceptionally few battles (puzzles become the focus of dungeons). when i finish the grunt work of card 2 ill release the demo for people to try out.

              Re: Main Plot

the longest game so far is 12 cards, Secret of Everyone its called and its not finished. two developers joined forces to make it i believe. mine will most likely exceed that amount considering how much of a reliance on scenario data i depend on. the battles in my game are very minimal and its filled with mini games so i have to devote a good deal of space to those and create enough content to cover the time normally used for battles.

im already 3 scenario cards in, and one system data card plus one custom sprite card too. perhaps i may aim for 15 cards though the length will entirely depend on how quickly it takes for me to develop the story. im not in the business of lengthening the game with needless crap just for the sake of showing off my skills or trying to get everything i want into the game. i add only what will exemplify the story or the fun value and then i do it in small doses so the player will not be totally distracted from the game.

since i have such a high production value it leaves me spending far too much time on each card to ensure i get it right. id love to finish this game by summer though i have too many distractions for that. ive finally broke through a bit impasse that i had but i still have quite a great deal more thinking to put into the process to aim my story in the direction i want it to go.

sometimes it gets difficult to tract all of the story elements and in keeping it consistent and realistic. i am not one to add totally insane stuff thats hokey. i want to keep things as reasonable as possible including reactions to situations and possibilities that are likely to occur if my story took place in the real world. naturally this is a fantasy game so i do have to weave in those elements but i try to balance them so they are not too over the top or far outside the dynamics of my world.

once i finish the final touches on the second scenario card i will release a first stage demo. this will give people a taste of what i have planned and perhaps will generate interest in my game which will motivate me to speed up the process some. if i can limit the distractions then i can aim for a reasonable release date or release the game in small installments or something.

15 cards? Is that really your realistic goal? That's pretty crazy man. How many hours of gameplay are you shooting for?

                  Re: Main Plot

unknown amount of gameplay hours, i will use as much time as i need to tell my story. if i can tell my story with less cards then ill do just that but i dont want to sacrifice quality by going either route (too much or too little content). originally this story was going to be a written book and when i finish with the game or perhaps at another time i will do just that.

until then ill just keep moving forward till i finish it.
