    Phoenix Rising

"Two centuries ago the Gods of Darkness were sealed away in the Nine Hells, and you were cut off from Maldeus. For two centuries now, you've been broken, scattered, treated as nothing more than prey for the sake of the other races. Two centuries you, your ancestors, and your kin have been hunted for profit and sport by the ruthless madmen who would call you 'evil' because you are goblins! Two centuries of mindless death and slaughter, of perpetual war for resources! But no more! You cannot stand for this any longer. You must, for your sake and for your children's sakes, and for your children's children's sakes, rise up and fight them off now and forever! I say to you, Maldeus has returned, and the time has come to wipe off the face of the Earth forever the bloodthirsty taint of Men, and Elves, and Dwarves! God wills it! God wills it!"

-Phoenix, to Goblin clans in Strunghold

Ashen: What do we even know about these guys?
Val: For one, they're addicted to cliches. Of all the people they could've kidnapped, they decided to take the one adolescent girl in the village. It's just like the storybooks.

Actually reminds me a lot of RM1's sample game (Gobli), which was a fun story but I quit playing it because the gameplay was too ordinary.

A "turn the tables around" kind of story is nice, but I can't imagine it being captivating enough that it could carry an otherwise-mediocre game, so keep that in mind.

Anyway, this at least has potential, I'll look forward to hearing more as you post it. What RPG Maker are you creating this for?

It's on RPG Maker 3. I used to have #1, but I seemed to have misplaced it.

Honestly, since I can't do much in the way of innovation with RPGM3, I can't do much for gameplay except to keep the random battles few and far between as far as I can tell. If you have any suggestions to spice up the game itself, I'd be happy to hear them.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but seeing as how you cannot use the Goblin monster model as a playable character, might that impact (ie-completely dismantle) your entire premise?

Just wondering. And there is a LOT that can be done to "innovate" with RPGM3....you just need to think outside of the box a bit.

Goblin can't be a main character?

That sucks, and yeah it would dismantle the premise.

Oh, oh! How about he uses the Thief model character and uses the green-skinned coloring? That could work!

Yeah...I was trying to be funny/snide/sarcastic in my last post. I know there are ways around not having a goblin as a PC. You could say that the thief model is a "genetically enhanced" goblin or something. All it would require is a bit of exposition, a semi-believable reason, and some suspension of disbelief on the player's part.

                      You both assume too much.

Your last statement reminds me of my Stories With Holes thread in my Series: Infinity forum.

Also, so far, I'm digging your posting, Maldeus. You seem to be one of the least grammatically-challenged newcomers we've had in a while. Which usually means, you'll probably do decent things with your game(s). I'm looking forward to further posts on this and other topics.

                          You're idea sounds ok.

Phoenix Rising was the name of a store I used to frequent when I was a kid. It sold D&D paraphernalia, Magic Cards and comic books. Lot's of other nerdy stuff too.

I have nothing to add to the proceedings except that it sounds interesting, at the very least. And Maldy, you've been spared my grammarian wrath thus far. That deserves like a frickin' medal.

One of the main characters of my game is named "Phoenix," and the name Phoenix Rising sounds really cool. Given the second, it is natural some fantasy-based organization and/or product called itself that in the past. Probably multiple such organizations/prodcuts. Given the first, it's also a good name for my game.

And walking people through obvious logic is a habit of mine, so don't take offense at it. It's not you, it's me.
