    Re: Holy-Chaos 2: Prophecies Unleashed!

With luck I will be able to upload my demo this weekend some time. I'm just about done with the story part of it. I just need to do the battles and boxes. I also am thinking about adding a few small side quests to it because the actuall game will be full of them. This will help get an overall feel of what the game will be like.

I was also thinking about maybe waiting another week for it to come out so I can make it two demos in one. I thought about a battle tower type idea that I want to see how it would turn out. I mentioned it in a contest thread a while back. I might make it two different demos or a side quest. Probably different ones because it is experimenting with the battle system. I made it work already, but incorperating a level up system to it is hard. That's why I want to add it with to see what way you like more. If people like the battle tower way it might be worth the extra time to make the whole game that way.

Either way you can be sure the demo is coming... And soon

I really like the premise of your story. I also like your ideas about acquiring new skills through events rather than through experience.

I look forward to playing this when you're finished.

Thanks man! The demo draws closer. I've been working on the opening storyteller today. That's really the last event that needs to be done. Just need to do some work on the battles. The way I see it I still have 5 hours tonight. I'm hopeing sunday at the earliest and next weekend at the latest.

Have you got your Max drive yet? I know you were looking for one.

I did it. Twice. And each time you get to see the map before it gets blown to smithereens. All my destroyed maps are newly blown to bits (sometimes with some of the action still going on) so I was able to use the nighttime and Fog effects as smoke (if you've ever seen a really big modern war, theres almost 0 visibility thanks to the smoke and the dust) so it helps.

As for making a map look destroyed without reducing visibility? I don't know. The times I tried, it looked pretty bad. That's why I hope Lausen succeeds, I'd like to see how its done.

Man you make things difficalt for me. Now I feel it has to be good, but I think your picture of destroyed is a bit different then what is actually in my game. Like in the story they went through many disasters. One map was struck with earthquakes the worst. Including plates in the earth shifting. It has been 400 years so it's not right after the desruction or anything. Another map was hit with flash freezing and I use like a crystal looking valley in it. Each map reflects the kind of disaster that hit.

It's hard to explain so I'll let them speak for thenselfs when it's out. Right now all I have left is the battle tower side quest and a few more playtest and she be ready. End of the week for sure!!! I'm not going to push the realese day back agian. Unless something major comes up.

Do you mean that a whole field map was hit with the disasters?

or is it just certain parts of a field map have suffered different disasters?

I didn't even know you could use multiple field maps in one game... if so then how do you do it?!

Well some field parts are worse then others.

But yeah you can have more then one map. Right now I have four, but have 7planned. You just need to find a smooth way of connecting them.

                        Re: Holy-Chaos 2: Prophecies Unleashed!

I had four planned for my first game, and planned on using give or take 25% of available memory for events, NPCs, etc., on each map. After the first map, I was up to 27%, so I was in good shape. After the second map, I think I was almost at 70%. So I ended up only making three maps. And using 4-5% left over at the end to tweak things throughout the whole game (debugging, etc.) is EXTREMELY difficult. I spent probably 2 weeks or more deleting things to make more room, adding things, tweaking those, changing things from earlier in the game, etc.

My game ended up using 99.9% of available memory.

Yeah I already know it will have to be two memory slots. Just because I like everything to be detailed. I'm going to work on nothing other then story events until it's complete. (After the demo) Then when I'm done I'm going to split the main story in half. 50% of the story on each mem slot. Then that will leave me with more then enough room for details and side quests.

Don't worry about the game becoming too long. It's just going to be detailed. I hate the memory limit. Oh well.

Demo is just about done. One side quest to finish and then I want to playtest it a few times at least.

You realize that all stats will reset for part 2, right?

There's no way to bring experience, items, etc. in to part 2!

I had my party get REALLY drunk at the end of part 1 of a game that needed to do this. They started part 2 broke and back at level 1 - with no items - just because it was easier than trying to guess what their levels were and what items they may have had (and definitely getting it wrong!).

Even with no random battles, unless EVERY battle was Mandatory to advance, there was no way to be accurate.

                              MOO!

There's no way to connect them directly, as far as I know. I think there are three ways to do this:

                                1. Set up a warp point that warps you to another field,
                                2. A dungeon that you enter into in one map and has a secret entrance in another map,
                                3. Or, if both maps have towns, you you can place launchpads in both towns that lead to each other.
