      Re: Holy-Chaos: Prophecies Unleashed!

It's been a long time since I've worked on this with my other projects. Those being my contest game Evil Fantasy and a game I've just kind of been messing with Mirage of Destiny. Today I finally worked on it again. Not a lot, but I made some progress as far as playtesting goes. Really that's all that's left to do. It's just that it's a long game.

My goal for this is to play at least an hour every day until I finish. I don't know how long that's going to be, but that's the goal. I'm judging my hour of playtime by the in game clock. That way there's no excuse to stop early.

I still have mixed feeling about this game as far as quality goes. It's my first major game I've worked on, and I started it over a year ago. After finishing up EF and seeing the difference in my own skills I'm kind of disappointed with this. I know I shouldn't be because I put my heart and soul into it making it, but it just doesn't compare, especially map wise. Right now I figure I put so much time and effort into it, it would be a waste not to finish it.

Hopefully I'll be updating this daily even if it's only some small stuff. That way I can at least keep track of my own progress.

DING DING DING!! My first game was the same way. It used 14 maps, and the earlier ones in the game are nothing next to the later ones. We won't kill you if there is a marked progression in your mapmaking skills. I can already tell you that the first couple of maps are very cool indeed, so if the later ones are even cooler, then...pfft. Don't EVEN worry. The fact that you're a perfectionist in that regard will make your game better, but it can also kill the game if you let it.

Nice to see an update after so long. I was wondering when you were gonna start playtesting it again. I'd really lik to play this game after it's done.

          Hurry up!

            Update

It's been a few days since I said I was going to be playing at least an hour a day. I've lived up to it so far. I've put in 4:36 in playtest mode. Of course I don't count the time it takes to change thing and fix spelling, so I've been playing quit a bit more.

I have found a few big errors. One being I modified a variable instead of adding. It just determined what a certain character said so it isn’t a huge deal. Another one is still kind of a problem. There’s a part were you get an item, but if your inventor is full it won’t give you it.

The rest has been spelling stuff. I definitely want to keep this progress up. I should be on the second slot by the end of the weekend if I don’t run into any technical glitch. As long as it’s just spelling I’ll make it.

            Thanks for the support guys.

Doesn't it pull up the menu where you have to decide whether to drop it or trade for it, like when you get an enemy drop after a battle, or open a chest? If not, then perhaps you could have a pedestal event turn on, with a graphic of the item on it? That way players could make sure that they have room before they grab it.

I was wondering why it didn't too. It's in the middle of a pretty big story event. It's not like a random sword or anything. I haven't really looked into it yet so the problem could be something simple. Like my accidently not puting the code to give the character the sword. I'll be sure to update once I figure it out.

                  Re: Holy-Chaos: Prophecies Unleashed!

I put in some more time. I'm a little past the 5 hour mark now. Overall I put in like 2 hours of work. Most of the time was messing with classes, and spelling stuff. I figured out why I wasn't getting the sword. When you put the code it you're asked if you want to give it to an individual character. If you do, the menu that pops up if you already have 10 items (where you replace them) won't pop up. You have to have party member selected for it to come up. Of course I had a character selected. Needless to say it works now, and I made that paragraph confusing.

I'm actually enjoying the playtesting now. I think I just didn't want to playtest the begining again because I've played that part more then any other, Now that I've made it further in I'm not having to force myself.

I know these aren't very big, or informing updates, but it helps me stay on track with my hour a day goal.

I managed to get an hour and a half in last night. I know, even more then I said. I have almost a full notebook page of spelling errors to fix though. I’d rather do a lot of error fixing at once. It takes more time to fix an error every time you see one. So needless to say I have a lot of fixing to do today. The good news is (not anything to do with car insurance) I’m almost on the second slot.

                      Update

Well I'm on the second slot for playtesting. Of course things can't go smoothly. For some reason when I do the memory card trick and load the actual playtest file my items are completely different. All skills and levels are right, but for some reason they have random equipment. It's really weird because they all have the best sword in the game. Even the archer. It’s not like the sword was the last item I made or anything. I don’t see how the game would know it’s the best. Just a strange coincidence

It sucks because I’ll have to be sure to take all swords from the party at the beginning of the first slot and just give them new stuff. Hopefully you guys don’t bite my head off over it.

I also did some decorating. Witch is a ***** having to do it on two different slots. I guess progress is as good as expected.

It must be hard to playtest a game over two slots. Keep up the good work.

                          Thanks Navane.

Yeah it's a pain having to switch between the two. I found out a bit more about the glitch that happened between the memory card trick switches. It made it so half my item list wasn't there. I could add an item, but they would just disappear. If you select items in battle you could scroll all the way down past the names on screen. If I selected one it would freeze my game.

I figured out a way past this. It's not the best way but it works. In slot one before the switch you have to discard all of your items from everyone. Like I said it sucks. I'll have to give the party items that fit for the area through an event right away in the second slot. There's no telling if they'll be right. And then there's the issue of the player not getting rid of the items. That would be bad. At least the variables, time, skills, and other things stay.

Now that I'm past that hurtle I'll be able to focus on actually playtesting again.

OH CRAP...REALLY? Damn. That sucks. Well, you're a pioneer in this field, Lausen. You're bound to run into all kinds of stuff like this, but I have to admit that I'm totally stumped about the problems you're having. WTF.

Thanks for going through all of this though, so we don't have to.

Can you not have an invisible event that automatically removes items from the characters? It would have to be huge, though...

Yeah, I thought about using an event, but I don't even want to think how long it would be. I don't even know if a single event would be enough. I have MORE then 100 items I would have to remove from 5 different characters.

What I have works, but the player will have to remove the items themselves. I tried doing it like 7 times with the same results.

Well, someone has to do it, right? I shall gladly bare the torrment alone. Tomorrow should be a productive day. I'll have to see what else happens.
