I think it would be alot better if you could customize your own vintage american muscle car and drive up a colussus' back and shoot it point blank range with a hood mounted howitzer cannon.

I managed to get past the Forest to a desert area with a Stone Henge-like structure and some turtles. (which I tripped over)

No, but if you step on them they go into their shells.
