    A Gamer's Manifesto

    Good stuff

This guy's got good points. I give him credit for taking the time to sum up a ton of **** most of us I'm sure are sick and tired of, give or take a few major points.

Where's the enemy Solid Snake who sneaks up on you with the silence of a ninja's church fart?
This is a lame point, why would an enemy try to "sneak up" on Snake, when he can simply call for 20 armed men to give him backup? The reason Snake has to sneak around is because he doesn't have any supplies and is outnumbered.

I haven't finished reading yet, I just thought I'd point that out.

It's also dumb when he says he doesn't want unlockables, he just wants to play the best part of the game right out of the box. That would suck, I like accomplishing things in a game.

Very deep stuff. I definitely have my disagreements and agreements with the article, however it was undoubtably well-written. It's well worth a read.

I agree. I DO feel accomplished when I start a game as a nobody, with no equipment/cars/guns/whatever, and finish it being able to pwn anything.

              I understand.

I also understand paying $50 for a game and only being able to play 1/200th of it without committing 100 hours of your time to it.

              It ****es me off too.

That's why I can't play Gran Turismo games.

I diddn't understand his point about that. It's pretty much saying "why play the game when you can complete it the first time out boot it up?"

                  His point is valid.

                  You just don't understand it.

I worded my reply wrong, I understood his point, but I diddn't understand why anybody would want that to be implimented into any game, ever.

that would instantly kill any replay value.

His point is that you still have the regular "game" but you can also have a "screw around" mode where you get to "screw around" with the features.

                        Something like that.

Which benefits those who still pay $50 but don't have the time or ability to use the game to its fullest extent.

Or do the things they PAID to do with it.

I completely understand his point, and I still don't quite agree with it. Opposite to you, Highwind, that's part of why I love the GT games. You start off with a little money and you earn more racing with your POS car in quick, no-money races and upgrade your car until you can afford a nicer one. You start off as some average guy, beating your opponents and ricing up your car until you're a huge champion. I love the feeling of racing a grueling 30-lap race and just barely winning, then hearing the fanfare as I win a $500,000 dollar purse and a beautiful Nissan race car as a bonus prize.

One of the main reasons I play games is for the sense of accomplishment, setting high scores and whatnot, and I unlock every unlockable in pretty much every game I have. I can't see how the guy can say he would rather start GT with the best car in the game, pwning everyone in races, or start WoW with a level 70 mage, beating everyone with ease. I'm a competitive guy, and I love trying to beat my friends' high scores or their unlocked bonuses, it's why I love games.

Just because that's why YOU play games doesn't meant that's how EVERYONE that pays $50 wants to play them.

                            That's his point.
