The FFVI characters' ages were mentioned in the official strategy guide and can be found in GameFAQs methinks. If memory serves me right, Terra's 17, the Super Figaro Bros. in their early twenties, Locke around the same area, perhaps a bit younger, Realm 10, Gau 13, Umaro 4 and Strago between 65-80.

Ah, it seems Terra and Setzer were actually one year older than we mentioned.

Wha? I never would've thought as Terra and Celes as teenagers. Then again, the game kinda hints at it being such, but still...

Hmm... come to think of it, something's off. Celes' 18 years old, 5' 9" and weighs 164 pounds? And Gau, even shorter, weighing the same?

Final Fantasy IV didn't capture me. The story was very weak, because with people dying and then coming back out of the blue, it ruined any realism it would have had. The game hand feeds you who is in your party, and also hand feeds you what job classes the characters were. The experience levels, aside from Cecil were hand fed too. You could get Cain up to level 10 for example, then he leaves and all of a sudden comes back at level 30 without you doing anything.

Even worse was the story arc. For example, you are told in the story that you must absolutely save all the crystals or the world will end if the crystals fall into the enemies hands. They do fall into the wrong hands, and then there's that whole "by the way, there are four MORE crystals we forgot to tell you about all along! So We're still okay!!" And finally, while graphics don't make the game, it was easy to tell the graphics and music were below SNES launch title capacity.

That's just opinion and all, but FFV returned the FF series to goodness, with its awesome gameplay. FFVI broke the mold, and FFVII was outstanding.

However, FFVIII has to be my all time fave. Everything about it, to me was perfection, save for the extremely easy difficulty level.

Everything he said about FFIV, it's crappy story, can easily be used as argument against FFV.
