Re: top 100 best-selling games of the past 12 months
I'd say this is true to an extent. Whenever I talk to someone about homebrew they look at me dumbfounded like I'm some computer whiz kid. It is pretty damn hard to figure out how to downgrade your PSP and in order to do it and it's a hell of a lot of leg work. And for the record, I don't pirate PSX or PSP games--I buy them like a normal person.
I personally love the system. It's stylish and sleek as hell. But I seem to be in the minority with Valk. Weaboos would rather play Pokemon or Naruto. What marcus said is true--the system doesn't have a lot of solid franchises to back it up. While the Nintendo DS has them in spades and seems to be constantly picking up more support along the way, not to mention it's a lot more accesible of a system. For example I couldn't get my girlfriend to want to play anything on the PSP aside from Patapon but everytime she saw my DS she wanted to play it. Professor Layton, Ninja Gaiden, Phoenix Wright, Trauma Center. Overall the DS is a more solid system with a much better library of titles. Yet I somehow don't regret selling it.
I love how I can now play Earthbound or Rocket Knight Adventures on the toilet.* That's a huge plus for me. It can also store a lot of music on it too seeming as I have an 8 GB card. It's a better piece of hardware but it's severely lacking when it comes to software, IMO. But that doesn't really matter, if they do someday get some really awesome and unexpected 3rd party support people will just steal the games anyways. }:[
* I do own those games and they're currently decaying somewhere in storage.

Only thing I can think of is if Sony came out with a PSP.2 or something like that. It could play original games along with the new ones--and custom firmware wouldn't be possible on it. But then people would just say "screw that" and stick with their portable emulator machines.
