Re: So I decided to buy a 360
It's funny but that's the first thing that popped into my mind.Originally posted by Chu¢kRi¢h View PostOh! I thought he was suggesting Halo Range (Hale Orange). Not really but it would make sense.
Anyway, actually decided to get just a regular old Xbox for right now. Partly because I am apprehensive about spending so much on a system that's known for technical problems and also to check out the games and controls first before I commit to the purchase. And partly because I'm an idiot and didn't research it when I went to the store and was all ready to buy an 360 Arcade bundle or whatever it's called. $270 didn't seem like a bad price so I was all like "yeah!", but then I found out it doesn't come with a HD. Then I was all like "boo!" HD's being $100.
So, I am saving for either a 360 or PS3 now, but I am quite content with my Xbox purchase for $40 plus Halo1&2, Fable, Jade Empire, and Morrowind.
I'm playing Halo for the first time now and I'm diggin it big time. The fact that both systems offer Oblivion and soon Fallout 3 leaves me a bit undecided again.Last edited by Seraph; 04-10-2008, 09:04 PM.

Re: So I decided to buy a 360
For Half the stuff mentioned I'd say just get Gamefly or a blockbuster game pass. Especially for Gears of War or Call of Duty 4. I guess CoD4 would be worth it for multiplayer. Or maybe I'm just holding it against it that it's not Medal of Honor 4.
Mass Effect is worth buying, Bioshock is too, but it's not the longest game ever and the replay value's not all that great. Mass Effect can give you over 100 hours easy if you explore all the planets but the side missions are very shallow and might as well have been randomly generated for all the production value.
I'm playing Just Cause right now and loving it. Compaired to GTA or even one of the lesser GTA-clones it's not really all that great when it comes to the GTA standards. There isn't much to weapons or fighting or vehicles. The enemy AI doesn't seem to be trying to actually shoot you as much as it just sprays bullets in your general direction so it's usually just a matter of using whatever weapon the wave of goons you're mowing down drops if you happen to run out of ammo. That or just go with the duel-wield default pistols that have infinite ammo. Also if you need a vehicle you can just have one air dropped for you so finding good vehicles and stockpiling them in garages is pointless.
But Just Cause seperates itself with what happens in the air. Anytime you get going fast enough you can launch a parachute that sweeps you up into the sky. It's amazing to take a helicopter as high as it'll go, which is really freaking high, then skydive down to the ground. It's easily minutes of free falling. You've also got a grappling hook that attaches itself to vehicles so you can catch some air from the back of a random car or you can just jump on the hood of whatever you're currently driving and launch yourself up that way. You can also jump from car to car or even helicopter to helicopter. At one point I was having to face multiple enemy aircraft so I used the grappling hook to jump onto one copter and proceeded to jump from one to the next tossing out their pilots as I went.
The islands are also some of the most visually impressive work I've seen in any game. It's just flat out beautiful to be flying in a helicopter as the sun rises over the ocean and the light is reflected by the water and mist creeps through valleys of the island. There's also some pretty good ambient music to complete the effect.
The downside to all this is that given the sheer size of the game environment there's a lot of dead space. Sure it's really fun getting to the top of a cliff and basejumping off but once you get to the bottom getting back up is a pain in the ass. Some people might be put off by the dead space issue and give up on the game but while it's annoying at times I still find myself just flying around and checking out the sights.
Oh, and it can get buggy sometimes. It appears that hitting certain things with your helicopter will cause it to explode instantly instead of giving you time to bail out. That can get annoying. The Cyclops having only one eye, needed to seek shelter from the harsh sun. The shadow cast by the spheres gave him temporary respite.
