    PS3 Oblivion problems

I'm probably the only person who plays this on the PS3, but I'm posting anyways, hopeful that I may get some help.

Oblivion is the only game I play on my PS3, had it almost a year. play it a lot. the past week or so, it's been crashing constantly. sometimes just seconds after starting it up. So I tried a new save file, crashes too. deleted the 5GB game data file, tried new file again. crash. deleted THAT game data file, reinstalled shivering isles expansion, load up old save file, crash. new save file, crash.

The disc has no scratches, it's perfect.

Armored Core 4 (my only other PS3 game) runs fine.

Anyone have any idea what the hell is going on?

Happened to me before. All I did was give my PS3 a good 3 days rest and it was good as new. It does that because so much is crammed into one server.

      Wait, what?

Oblivion is an offline game. I don't think it would have servers.

The game server. Server is not just an online thing. A server is something that holds data and files.

Oblivion is not a network game.

          there are no servers.

I'm wondering if your hard drive is fragmenting.

PS3 uses the EXT3 file system if what I read is true. The EXT3 file system is a Linux file system, and it doesn't fragment, unless your hard drive is near full. Is yours near full?

                  You're not fragmenting then.

Did you have any sudden power outages to where the PS3 would have been cut off suddenly?

The same thing happened when we tried playing Oblivion... except we have it on the PC.

How does it crash? With ours, the power just cuts off completely. Letting it rest an hour helped in the short term, but in the end we had to turn the graphics settings down.

Your PC is probably overheating. The computer is shutting off before it gets so hot that the processor burns up.

This happened to me while playing Oblivion, and I solved it by installing a 600-watt power supply with a huge fan on it that cools down the CPU.

Oblivion is the only game I ever played that will find any flaw in your cooling system and exploit it.
