    Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan

I've been playing both Ouendan 1 & 2 recently. They are JP music/rhythm games for the DS, and I love them. You play as a team of serious looking guys known as the "cheer squad." You're summoned by various weirdos to help them through their goofy personal problems by yelling and dancing to music. You hit numbered markers in time with the beat to help the team accomplish this.

The first game was brought over here and changed around to be Elite Beat Agents. I tried playing that a few times, and never got into it.

Then I got a copy of Ouendan 2 (official title: Moero! Nekketsu Rhythm Damashii Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan 2), and was instantly hooked. The music is much better, and the ouendan are more entertaining than MIB rejects. Just look at these guys:

    And a screenshot (easy mode):

Now I'm on the last level of hard mode in both games. I would say that 2 is the one to start with, since they improved a lot. If you do really well on a song, you can save a replay of your game (up to 20, I think) and show off to other losers. There are three unlockable songs you can get once you reach a certain number of overall points. Also, you can skip all song intros, if you've already played the level before. There are different types of 2-4 player wireless games.

Both games have catchy music, insane stories, and are fun as hell to play.

I do have issues with the spinner sections, which can be annoying. Some songs have hit markers that are on odd beats/notes, which makes it tough. And playing the game without a screen cover/protector will come back to haunt you. :P

Right now the second game is on sale at play-asia.com for about $30.00.

    That's all.

    Ooh, good write-up.

Which game has the Fullmetal Alchemist theme song? :3

That's the final song for Ouendan 1.

I'm torn between hating the generic American designs and knowing that I'd like the Japanese song list about as much as the American one. :s

Sure, it might not appeal to everyone. But if you enjoy games like Taiko No Tatsujin and Gitaroo Man, then you might dig it.

I heard that the Elite Beat Agents are an easter egg in Ouendan 2. Either you face off against them, or you can play as them, I forget.

I like Elite Beat Agents. They did a hell of a job bringing the game state-side with relevant songs and kooky situations.
                    ...and that's why.

I couldn't stand their song selection, and the covers were pretty bad. It was like playing the US version of Taiko, which is fine, I guess, if you haven't ever played any of the 9 or so JP games.

Once I had crazy j-pop/rock songs instead of Cher, Avril Lavigne and Ashlee Simpson garbage, I actually played through more than one mode.

EDIT: the EBA were available as a bonus download thingy in Japan, but there's also an AR code to unlock them.

Saw the topic and got my hopes up there was some sort of sequel happening, but the video was awesome.
