Tell me about it. For every reason I can think of I should hate this game. But it all works together so well. It's like a strange mash-up of Azure Dreams, Harvest Moon, The Sims, and The Shin Megami Tensei universe and I'm loving it.
I plan on writing a review for it. I'm taken back by just how much this game has surprised me by taking elements that should make a horrible game and making it into something awesome.
I just got pwned by the boss on 36. Frankly, the trek from 25 to 36 sucked. It doesn't help that I'm already fighting this boss 2 nights after I was supposed to, according to the guide.
I'm rather enjoying the game now. It became much better once I figured out that you don't have to meet up with these people on certain days or you are ****ed. Besides, if I finish the game the first time around and everything isn't perfect, no biggie. Most of the stuff returns with you on new game+. So I can still keep my stats the next go around. What I don't get, though, is why it takes so damn much to increase Academics, Charm, and Courage. I've been trying to beef those up like nobodies business.... all I get out of it is the second Lv for academics.
The guide really helped me in explaining the best way to boost my stats.
What you have to realize is not all stat boosts are equal. Like, if you go to the movies you get a bigger stat boost than going to a restaurant. And restaurants are better than late night stuff.
Also, a great way to boost your academics: if you go to the Shrine and donate 1000 yen you have a 80% chance of getting small boost to your academics. That also doesn't take up a time frame, so you can do it every single day. It's generally a good idea, because Academics is by far the hardest stat to raise.
Right now I'm trying to boost my Charm to its highest level. I've already got it to level 4. Sadly, I'm still not courageous, as that's only level 2.
Oh, if you're tired or sick and you go to the nurse's office you get a free boost to your courage that doesn't cost a time-unit.

Heh, I guess it really is a Japanese-student sim.
The Cyclops having only one eye, needed to seek shelter from the harsh sun. The shadow cast by the spheres gave him temporary respite.
Beat the 25th floor boss, got to the 36th and tried the boss there.. didn't work out so well.
Really starting to wish you had more control over your party, because some of the stuff they pull is ridiculous, like using physical skills while poisoned so they lose just enough health to get killed from the next attack, or ignoring elemental weaknesses they can exploit in favor of using a physical attack.
I know you get more commands for them as the game progresses; but jeez, just letting them use items other than medicines would have improved the game so much.
My advice? Scan ALWAYS. If you scan, your people will abide by that scan. Help/Support is also VERY useful to set. Status ailments DO suck because your team never cures them.
In that fight in 36 I just left Junpei dead because he became a liability. Then I just healed like mad, and then if more than one person got poisoned, I'll heal that. It was a long battle, and probably the hardest fight I've had, but I came out in the end.
Oh, later on you'll be able to handle specific elements in various ways.
