Looks like Sony popped a gasket when Kotaku decided to report a rumor about its future plans. I think Kotaku absolutely did the right thing. It's Sony's job to make sure things happen in Sony's favor and it's Kotaku's job to inform the public on what they think is going on. Too bad things had to eventually come to a confrontation.

Yeah, valk pretty much summed up my feelings."At first it just looked like a picture of a bunch of lily pads, but then I started scraping at it with my pocket knife and the whole painting just sort of spoke to me," Schmidt said. Re: Kotaku is Dead to Sony
I'm guessing that if the rumor is true, Sony wanted to announce it in a more contrived (and perhaps more effective) way, and if the rumor isn't true, Sony didn't want fans disappointed (but in that case they should have simply denied the rumor outright instead of butting heads with a reputable blog).
So yeah, Kotaku is correct in that Sony's actions does lend the rumor some veracity (though the platform could be far different than what speculators described), and good on Kotaku for refusing to compromise their values. I don't hate Sony at all, but it seems like everything in their whole marketing realm is becoming arrogant and inept.

Sounds cool, actually. Be more fun if you could invite friends and vice versa to see each other's stuff. The Playstation Home, we reported, would be an intriguing blending of the Mii and achievements, allowing gamers to create a virtual world for customized avatars and then decorate that space with items unlocked through game play.

Re: Kotaku is Dead to Sony
The only explanation I can think of is that this is in fact their big GDC surprise and they didn't want the wind taken out of their sails but that happens all the time. Every game site, blog, and mag runs a rumor section. We all love to hear what may be on the horizon ahead of time. Kotaku went out of its way to point out that it was a rumor so people and did what they should have done. Sony just seems to be ****** they didn't give in to the thinly veiled threats and are punishing them for it.
Bad PR and underachievement with the PS3 is one thing, this is the kind of stuff that makes me dislike Sony. First their lack of respect for gamers ("Just work extra hours, you'd buy it even without games, we own you!!"), then their war on importers, now this. If they keep doing things that hinder the gaming community we're better off without them.I want that Mulan McNugget sauce, Morty!

Re: Kotaku is Dead to Sony
Look at how they treat their UK customers, and then look at how they killed lik-sang, and then look back where they essentially said that PS fans were so dedicated (stupid) that they'd buy the PS3 even if it didnt have any games. That just doesn't make any sense at all. I always thought Sony WANTED to make their user base happy. Isn't that the point?
