It just seems to me like Sony no longer wants to put all their Blu-Ray eggs in the PS3 basket so they had to make standalone Blu-Ray players more accessible. This change wouldn't make a lick of difference to people interested in PS3's other functions, but the niche (however nonexistant) that would have only been looking for Blu-Ray and saw they could get so much more for so much less would've gotten a PS3. But with all the bad press PS3 has been getting in the non game press (Time Magazine, New York Times, etc) they're not so confident Joe Techy Nongamer would trust PS3. Just as Sony's games division can't afford to admit PS3 isn't faring as well as expected, the rest of Sony can't afford to ignore the fact.
