NES Ducktales question

Okay, I havent played this game since it came out, but my sister recently gave it to me so I'm trying to play through it again.

The B button is supposed to do a cane attack, right? does anything have to be achived for this to happen? I press B over and over again, and nothing happens. I know my controller works fine because I can fire in the Mega Man games without a problem.

i think you have to be up against an object (holding either right or left) and then press the button to use the cane. I'm actually trying to remember how the gameboy version was like since that was the only version i owned.

Press into the object to golf swing.

Press down and B while jumping to pogo jump.

You should be pogo jumping about 90% of the time.
