    Re: Diddy Kong Racing DS

Oh good, I get my chance to rant.

DKR was fun at first. More fun than MK64, yes, what with there being a story and exploration and bosses, along with three different vehicle types that became selectable upon later races, and the character Timber. Even moreso since I could actually play battle mode with CPU players, which Mario Kart only just started with MKDS. I didn't mind so much that you had to go through each race twice in order to beat the game, as the coin quest was a fun challenge.

One thing that irritated me, though, was the ending, and Adventure 2.
    *** SPOILERS ***
After beating Adventure 1, we get one last shot of Wizpig returning, and it says "To Be Continued". Then popped up Adventure 2, and I figured that it would reveal a full ending and perhaps some extra races in it. Wrong. It gave the same ending.
    *** END SPOILERS ***

I was left believing that DKR was sent out the gate without being properly finished. That ruined my view of the rest of the game. Suddenly the coin quest and Adventure 2 seemed more like a quick attempt to add gameplay time than a well-thought feature. I almost considered getting this remake after hearing about the track editor, if not for what I also heard about the control issues when racing the bosses a third time (wait, did we even have a third time before?), and because I don't know if they changed the ending. Is the ending the same?

(As a side-note, MK-DD remains my favorite Mario Kart to date.)

UPGRADES?!?!? I beat Wizpig in the original with no UPGRADES.

WHAT? If adventure 2 was left out, the game would still be great. Adventure 2 is just a nice extra feature added to the game.

Also, I don't think you've beaten the secret world.

        Re: Diddy Kong Racing DS

The plane controls like a busted bumper car without the handling upgrades on DS. Well, when I tried before I actually had the upgrade that added speed but subtracted handling without realizing it so it was even worse than normal.

And I never played the original but I guess the ending is a little different but not much of anything.

It just shows everybody celebrating and Taj shows up and says thank you and the credits roll. Then you can select Adventure 2 from the title screen. You can still select Adventure 1, I guess if you didn't get everything before beating it.

Yeah, that's basically how the ending went. Except right before the credits, it gave a shot of Wizpig flying back down in his spaceship with maniacle laugh, and it said "To Be Continued" during the credits. And it did this on both endings.

You mean the world where Wizpig races you while riding on a rocket? Yeah, I beat it. I had the guide for it, and it doesn't show any other worlds.

What I'm saying is, because both Adventure 1 and Adventure 2 had the same cliffhanger ending, I was left under the impression that the game was rushed to release in time for the holiday season (I hear because of Banjo-Kazooie's and Conker's delays), and that the coin collection and Adventure 2 were just features thrown in at random to artificially make the game longer. I wound up liking the game less. If they had taken the time to properly finish the game, it would've been better.

Or maybe it was ended like that so they could have a sequel?

What the hell does it have to do with a rush job?

Just because it seemed that way when I found out Adventure 2 didn't really have anything extra. At that point, I figured, "what's the point?" And looking back at the rest of the game, I wondered if there was an overall rush with the rest of the game. Especially after reading some reviews. DKR, from what I understand, was an out-of-nowhere game.

Uh, the game was perfect already with adventure one.

Adventure two was just more content for people who liked the game.

Mario Kart did pretty much the samething with Mirror Tracks.

                  Re: Diddy Kong Racing DS

Yeah, but in Mario Kart, it was just another cup, and there wasn't much to the cups in the first place. DKR, it's an actual quest. And that quest would've been better had Adventure 2 not existed for no apparent reason. Then I would've been happy, and I would've enjoyed the stuff like the coin collection races as much as I did the first time.

Adventure two is just there for people who really like the game.

You do not have to beat adventure 2. I don't know why you're complaining about something they didn't even have to throw in. If it was a rush job, Adventure 2 wouldn't even exist. You are complaining about extra gameplay.

                      Re: Diddy Kong Racing DS

I'm just under the impression it was thrown in to artificially add to the gameplay, instead of taking the time to add more real content. But whatever, this is turning into an argument that's a matter of opinion over facts, so I'll just let this drop.

Doesn't change that DKR was still better than Mario Kart 64. [/opinion]
