I bought a book on Flash Animation and it says I need a tablet. Does anyone know of a good/economically priced tablet? I tried using a tablet in college and thought it was impossible to draw with. Do you have any advice on your experiences with them? Is it possible to just draw with pen and paper and scan images into Flash that way?

Re: Tablet recommendations?
Uh...just drawing frame by frame and scanning it in? That sounds like a lot of work.
I'll wager to guess you'd probably want to streamline your work as much as possible, in that case I'd go for a tablet since with that you can do everything with one machine in one place. I picked up a graphire myself for my draft drawing classes which was a great investment, however you may want to try something a little bigger.
Some of wacom's intuos line comes in larger sizes.
Pretty much it comes down to either the graphire or intuos. The graphire has this little plastic thing that actually lets you put a picture between the tablet and the drawing surface so that's a neat feature.
If you really got some beans to throw around go for the Cintiq, which is like a monitor you draw on.Last edited by DK; 11-08-2006, 01:28 PM.

Re: Tablet recommendations?
Well, like I said I've just been using it for draft drawing, took a few hours for me to get used to it. I just tried some cartooning to see what I can do and it's a little more difficult, but with practice the lines will get easier to draw straight and everything. There's also settings to change the sensitivity too so if you have a shaky hand that's not as much of an issue.Last edited by DK; 11-08-2006, 01:50 PM.

Re: Tablet recommendations?
The hard part is getting used to looking at the screen instead of the surface you're drawing on. I guess it would be harder to get used to that if you're big into drawing on paper. I don't draw much and was already used to working with a mouse and just got one to delay the carpal tunnel so, it might have taken 30 minutes to get used to.
I have to add that if you're really not into drawing or hardcore digital painting (textures for me) then it is a big waste of money. You don't need this to use the paint bucket tool.
Also, bigger isn't always better. A bigger tablet means you'll have make even bigger strokes and it can make things confusing if your monitor isn't that big.
