name a board game (with prize!)

ok, i've got a small card-and-board game publishing thing i'm doing. i'm still learning the ropes from the business end, but i've got one very simple game (Ruby Rush) manufactured, and it's currently carried by 3 comic/game stores in the metroplex. (I've moved about 100 copies so far).

i've got several other games sitting around, fully functional, playtested and prototyped, waiting for me to have enough money to manufacture them.

one of these is a game which I'm having problems naming, and I need y'all's help.

The players represent lumberjacks, chopping down trees to score points and gain abilities. they're avoiding a bear, which the control of is shared between the players. the game ends when all but the last player is eliminated by the bear (and that player wins), or when the third tree of a certain hidden type is chopped down (and then the player with the highest point total wins). there are dice involved, and the impact the results of the dice have on the game scale up the longer the game lasts.

I will send a copy of Ruby Rush (which retails for a whopping $4) to the two best name suggestions for the lumberjack game. Please don't plagiarize, and keep in mind the name needs to appeal to consumers.

the playtest prototype isn't particularly pretty (it's for function more than form), but ask and you shall receive.

oh boy. so each of those balls are tree markers and you chop them down. so where does the bear come in? is it a player icon, a physical piece on the board?

          hmm, lets see.

how about: chop, stop, and bear-all?

          lumberjack attack?

          timbear? (timber and bear together)

          wild wooden worry?

          lumber-ing bear?

          chopping log, hidden bear?

ok they are getting worse as i go on.

why are you logging to begin with? is the bear representing the logger running into it by accident or are you being chased by it at the start (which would be the question why are you chopping trees to escape?)

the black piece is the bear. you are logging with intent to gain more quality wood from this region than the other lumberjacks, before nightfall (if it helps, think about it as if you receive a performance-based paycheck). the bear's protecting his territory, which you happen to be denuding.

they're actually closer to mushroom shapes than balls, it's just hard to discern the "trunk" because they're so small and the picture quality isn't amazing. and they may wind up as round cards (or something else) in the final product anyways, hehe. just like the black-piece-bear representation will hopefully become an actual bear-shaped piece.

Since "lumber" can also mean "tax", you could call it "Timber Lumber".

                  </sarcasm>

If you want the two titles to have some sort of connection, "Forest Flight" would be fitting.

I really think Timber! is simple and sweet.

That's already an arcade game though. I *think* it's copyrighted or whatever.

Yeah, but I mean, that's an arcade game and not a board game. I figure it's safe new territory.

But when he talked about it, would he actually have to yell "Timber!" instead of just saying it? Like, on the phone with a game store?

"It'd be great if you could put my games on the shelves."

                          "Well, what are they?"

"I made Ruby Rush and TIMBER!"

                          "..."

                          "...sorry."
