    Re: Poetry by Pagerron

    Hon
I wanted to talk with you more this evening,
but I just didn’t know what to say.

I wanted to just hear your voice,
but you just seemed so distant,
    preoccupied with your own things.

    I wanted to hug you,
    kiss your lips so tender.
But distance has separated us yet again.

I wanted to see your eyes
To feel your smile upon my cheeks
But you are there and I am here.

Time seems to creep so slowly
As I wait to see you again
    To hold your hand
    And smile and laugh.

      Re: My Poetry

      The World Moves On
      She sits smiling
Trying to attract attention to herself
      So old and frail
Holding on to the years gone by
      Now her glory fading,
she claws to get it back
She tries so hard, too hard, to get noticed
People pass her by without a glance
      She has faded, beauty gone
      The world moves on.

        She lingers
I try to work but can't,
for she is on my mind.
        I try to concentrate
but she is in my thoughts.
        Separated from her by miles,
        I won't see her soon,
        but she is here
        with me, nonetheless.

          Clarity

Earlier today, the many stresses of life weighed heavily on my weak shoulders. Thinking about the days and months ahead, feeling burdened by the tension of work, marriage, money and so many other things, I closed my eyes to wish it all away. It, however, did not disappear.

I shut my lids again, this time to sleep, hoping that maybe some rest would do me good. A while later, waking with a start, I sat up at the desk where I'd planted myself. The rest apparently hadn't helped.

I made a decision to work a bit on some of the things I had to do. Believe it or not, that really helped quite a bit. Also, I got up to move around and went to another building to try working in a different atmosphere. That was also very beneficial.

In addition, I was reminded earlier today that I really need to give all of my anxieties to God because I tend to think about EVERYTHING that has to be done, and as a result, get extremely overwhelmed by it all, and I end up doing nothing.

A good Bible verse came to mind today, too, which seemed most appropriate. "Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." This is a verse from Matthew 6:34.

So, yeah, pressing on...just thought I'd share.

Anger can be such a devastating thing. I SO need God's grace to deal with it.

            Hiding Inside

There's a monster deep in my soul
            That's waiting to come out
            and scare you to death.

It hides away for a season
            Then gnashes its teeth
            when I least expect.

            Its bulbous eyes turn red
            With hatred, fear, and dread

            As its dripping tongue
Oozes out its stream of lies.

It is Anger, Rage, Malice, Hatred
            All rolled up in one.

And when it grabs my vocal chords
And begins to control my tongue,

            Those rancid words spew forth
            Pouring from my mouth.

And the bubbling, vile, cursing streams
            drown everyone around me.

Re: my poetry and other writings

I don't ever think of a line break as an actual break while reading, unless it's obvious from the words that it's time to break.

Of course, I'm a hack when it comes to poetry, but I like my poems to continue on past the line if it's necessary to do so. There's a term for it, and if I can remember it, I'll let you know. Enjambment, I think.... *wanders off to Dictionary.com* Yep. It says:

"The running on of the thought from one line, couplet, or stanza to the next without a syntactical break."

I tend to toss this concept around a bit flippantly, and if you've ever read my poem "His Mistake" on the forum, you'll see that it sometimes takes you out of the rhythm when you realize it's happened. Enjambment can and does have very effective uses, but it isn't something to just toss out there. Something to think about, though, in your budding poetic career.

Edit: Totally forgot in my whimsical musings, but I scanned the topic a bit, read a few here and there. They're definitely not bad. I highly enjoyed "Between the Beasts."

                Cool post!

I've never heard the term "enjambment" before. Thanks for the information.

I'll have to check out "His Mistake" too.

Re: my poetry and other writings

Well, honestly, I haven't read a whole lot of poetry recently. I've been reading several books. The most recent poetry I've read was written by John Keats, but that was a while ago. If I read more poetry, I might do a better job of producing my own poems.

How about you American Hero, do you have a favorite poet?

I really can't say much except that I hate poetry in general, so my opinion means nothing. In fact, the only "poem" I've ever enjoyed was "The Odyssey" which was/is an epic poem written in another language, on another continent nearly 3000 years ago. I probably would have enjoyed Beowulf if the language wasn't so screwy.

And before Mora gets mad at me for calling the language of our forefathers screwy, don't take my language so seriously.

                        My favorite poet is Homer.
I don't think Ive ever read any modern poetry.

                        I also enjoy Geoffrey Chaucer.

I get angry with Chaucer. He goes into these long asides that he knows are ******* people off, and then apologizes for doing it.

                              Waiting

Apart we live and work and play and laugh alone
With time enough to only say a few quick words by phone.

This distance in between us and the busy lives we lead
Make my desire to become one with you intense indeed.

God I know how you feel. It's torture at times, but I just try to convince myself that it's worth the wait for those few fleeting moments we are together. Good short poem.
