So...what do I have to do to avoid getting food poisoning?

I got it again Monday and it incapacitated me for a whole day. I had lunch meat sandwiches and Chef Boyardee spaghetti and meatballs, both cooked in the microwave. I'm guessing this is what put me down, but they were both COOKED.

For the time being I'm not eating any red meat, or lunch meat, or meat out of a can. And I always cook meat I eat. So...what else can I do so I don't have to go through that hell again and miss a day of work?

What makes you think it's food poisoning?

      And I'm damned if I do and I'm damned if I don't

Is there anything else you ate around that time? What kinds of stuff did you put on the sandwich (veggies, etc)? How fresh is all the food you're using?

        There's also this...

I'd look at the lunchmeat with a little more suspicion than the canned stuff. You can argue that it isn't very nutritional, but that stuff lasts a looong time.

Lunchmeat on the other hand... depends a lot on packaging and handling. Having worked in a meat dept. of a grocery store, you see a lot of variance in the lifespan of meats depending on manufacturer... even before it hits the shelves. Don't ever buy anything that has a loose vacuum seal, whether it's due to bloating by gas, or a semi-transparent liquid film, just leave that **** alone.

Also, don't buy anything that's clearly been removed from its original packaging and resealed in that store's styrofoam trays. It's commonplace for grocery stores to move old product like this and sell it at a discount. That stuff isn't bad yet, but it needs to be used immediately, and some people will go home and stick it in their fridge.

Anything that's smothered in seasoning or has packaging that doesn't allow you to see the product should be ignored as well. It's a sign of aging product or ****ty quality, respectively.
So you're a fish out of water...
            Keep swimming.
            What else can you do?

Because I've had it before, and it definitely was this time, too. I suddenly got diarrhea and puked, got extremely dehydrated because of it, and got a sharp pain at the base of my spine. Also, I didn't have a fever. No one around me has had the flu, either.

I'm starting to think it might have been something I ate on Easter, though. I just can't pinpoint it. I had several meat-based items on that day, too, including meatballs, a chicken taco, and a steak fajita. No one that ate any of those got food poisoning as far as I know, though. Maybe I just ate too much beef?

I just wanted to melt some cheese on it.

I didn't mean it could be a flu or you're imagining things. Several chronic digestive disorders look like food poisoning.

Also, you can get food poisoning from anything, even vegetables.

Yeah, I knew that. Blackberry got it from spinach while she was pregnant. That was pretty scary.

Chances are you got it from fast food, if anything. Canned foods are usually boiled or sterilized in some way.
