Re: Now tell me *your* story about how you came to the Pavilion. Or don't.

I found the pav googling RPGM3 ****. Back then I used different names for each forum, and I chose hitogoroshi because he was the main villian in my RPGM1 game (because I was 13 and japanese named enemies were cool.) This placed formed my net identity to the extent that I'm hito everywhere. Good times.

Re: Now tell me *your* story about how you came to the Pavilion. Or don't.

I got RPGM3 as a birthday present. In the instruction manual there was a link to the Agetec site. In the Agetec forums there was a like to the current Pavilion. That was... when I was 15, so almost four years ago. That's it. No epic tale of discovery for me.

I've been really... well, nowhere near as active as I used to be, for quite some time. But there is the first internet forum I've ever been on (and for the most part the only thing I used the internet for at all), and the time I've been here holds some fond memories. Not a lot of them, though, but I hope that's because my memory is worth crud.

Besides, I'd rather not go and look through too many old threads, because that would require looking at my old posts, and every time I look at my older posts I wonder if I was mentally retarded at the time. Seriously, that's how idiotic my posts where. At the time I wasn't sure I was well-liked by most of the Pav, and looking at my posts I can understand why to some extent. There's a lot of things where I'm just like, "Why the hell did I say that?"

Friend and I were pumped for RPGM, posted about it on gamefaqs when I turned 13 (you had to be that old to post there). Stayed for a while, the pavilion had qutie a bad rep there, but I remember Alto and IRC there, maybe a few others (think Czechs, maybe?). The community started to die down a bit, there was some troll named BenJammin that would just run roughshod over the place every so often. Eventually I packed my bags and wound up here with some Sonic the hedgehog sigvatar combo, posting about a game I wanted to make. Don't think I got along with many people, I was a regular Dusk Raven. Took a few years before I really made friends here, though I confess I don't remember what I ever started talking to Magus or Mora about, must've been SH: The Room or something.

Re: Now tell me *your* story about how you came to the Pavilion. Or don't.

I'd made some games with Klik & Play and The Games Factory, but I REALLY wanted to make an RPG. I'd gotten the first RPG Maker in 8th grade, and I was hoping to find tips online to making it more useful or, like, fun.

I found this place, with all its kooky inhabitants, and lurked for a long time since I didn't have anything useful to say about RPG Maker. Not until I realized that there were forums for other stuff did I dare to post. I'd only been a member of one previous board (It was a Final Fantasy fanfiction and RP site. Rocket Town, I think?) and I was a bit nervous. I actually had Kefka as my avatar back then.

After school on 9-11 I came to the Pav (I guess I was just in the mood to start creating again that day) and I found a thead called something like A PLANE JUST HIT THE WORLD TRADE CENTER that had reached 20 or so pages. I read the whole thing. There were so many different people posting with such fervor. It was like reading a story with an amazing cast of characters.

I especially remember highwind (I think Rico Banderas was his avatar, he hadn't switched to Citan yet) being all furious at the terrorist bastards responsible, making some caustic remarks to people of a certain descent, and Karim (Asuka Langley Soryu all over her avatar and signature) being all like, "Hey, cool it, this sucks, but you can't jump to conclusions," and highwind feeling some remorse for his outbursts. There was such an amazing chemistry in all of the interactions that was so EXPRESSIVE.

And for the first time, I was like, "Wow. These are real people."

I repped you Kefka, but I messed up the rep! It was supposed to say "great".

                    At any rate:

I showed up and started lurking in September of 2000, 3 months before I would eventually register and make like 20 pointless posts and then leave for 3 more months. It was really around mid-2001 that I stumbled back into the Pav and getting acquainted with people, and probably another year before I felt a real connection with the place. It was hardly ever about the RPG Maker side of the place for me. I came for that, and stayed because of the people, and the inherent creativity of everyone. People were so inspired and creative and everyone had huge hopes and dreams for their games and their lives. Even the jaded cynicism that persists around here some days isn't enough to dull that shine.

I gave up on the Makers at RPGM2, and instead of focusing on gameplay aspects when I contributed to that side, I went for the other side, story and plot, characters and world-building.

Then the Creative Writing Story 3 happened. I became at first just another contributing member to the collaboration, and then one of only a few left, and then a driving force behind moving forward with writing it altogether, until I was the last man standing, writing the last 150 pages myself, with a cavalcade of notes from brainstorming sessions and individual's ideas about where the story and characters were going. The CWS3 helped form and solidify two lasting friendships, which I hold in high regard: Mora and Starba.

There are other friends and other stories and other people, good and bad times, all of which make up the fabric of this place and my experiences with it. If nothing else ever came of the Pavilion or my "story" involving the place, I'll always have the CWS3, my friends, and this place's undying devotion to creativity and production in all its forms.

                      Google.

Okay, I'll give more info than that. Back when RPGM was in the works I search google for information on it. I was lead to the old EZ-Boards. Back then I was really shy so I just lurked around the place. After a while I lost track of the site (I always came there via Google and never really remembered the URL.) Years pass by and RPGM3 is around the corner and run into this place. Several names look familiar and felt somewhat comfortable with the place. I then became an actual member. This was the first time I became a part of an online community so I honestly wasn't sure how to act. I went with a God of Destruction persona and stuck with it for a little while. Yes, it was stupid. I admit it. Back then I thought I was suppose to go with some sort of persona and I don't remember why. I've mellowed down quite a bit since then. Which I for one believe is for the better. I made not be all out there anymore, but I don't care. If people overlook me then **** em, I think I'll live. I prefer to be straight and to point which is why you rarely see lengthy posts from me. That and ADD. Tis a *****.

I think I did a search on RPG Maker, was given the choice between the Pav and Garden, chose the Garden, but it died, so I came here.

Everytime I think of Highwind I just remember all of those Kurt Cobain avatars...specifically one of him in a cheerleader uniform. I never interacted with Karim, so I can't say I remember much of her. Kef, I seem to remember you "stabbing" me and others in the face who made stupid or otherwise disagreeable posts.

Hito was on here for about 5 months, and he kept talking about how awesome it was. I think I kept reading it over his shoulders, and he just made me get my own account so I would stop.

Even though I've only really been a lurker, I've been lurking for a little over 5 years, so I guess that counts for something?

Was a regular on the Agetec forums, Kire posted that he was making the pav, decided to check it out, and was the 4th registered member...the rest is history.

I was ultra-excited for RPG Maker when it came out, searched around a little and found this place. I was about 12 then, so I was an annoying kid, went through like 4 screen names, and eventually faded into obscurity.
