Re: Is it blizzard-ing by you guys too?

Haha, yeah, okay. Because it is extremely easy for people to get new cars.

The National Guard is out in states looking for stranded motorists, so, you know, they don't die.
HOW DARE THEY HELP OUR CITIZENS. HOW DARE THE NEWS INFORM US OF WEATHER WARNINGS
    AND POSSIBLE DANGERS.

You, sir, are clearly over exaggerating State and Federal responses to this.

    Cool NASA picture:

It started raining here around sundown. But it was really warm and nice out today until then. Still kinda warm out though. North of here there is ice falling from the sky though.

Now there's supposed to be 24" or more in the next 18-24 hours.

And yeah, it's not a panic. It's that the snowplows are gonna be unable to remove the snow faster than it accumulates. This is supposed to be the worst snow in Chicago since 1967. I don't get people (Muse) pooh-poohing 2 feet of snow.

Also, we probably had this discussion before, heap of reptiles, but are you anywhere near Titus Ave or Needmore (road/ave/street/whatever)?

We have not but that's an odd question to ask.

We had part one of the big storm in Boston today. Tomorrow is part two, and it looks like it'll be more of an ice storm. Lookin' at 18 inches!

I ain't goin' anywhere tonight, certainly. Rehearsal for the opera I'm working on might be canceled tomorrow, buuuuuuuut maybe not

Ice is the worst. Heaps of snow is better than ice, let alone both.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing, just we see bigger storms several times every winter, but I've looked into this more and apparently it's a bigger storm then I originally thought.

And about the new cars thing, if you car can't handle less then a foot of snow, you might need a new car.

I am saying if you looked at cars bought in heavy snow geographies, compared to mid-latitude ones, I am betting consumers there buy more cars catered to that climate. Is that so hard to understand?

One of my five favorite bands of all time is from Dayton, Ohio. They still live there, to my knowledge, after having recorded and toured for nearly 30 years. They have an album called Vampire on Titus (hence the first question, and apparently is where at least one of the band members/former band members live/lived), and their publishing company is under the name Needmore Songs (which is kinda clever, actually).

It's blizzard-ing like a mutha****er out there, but as of right now, there's not a huge amount of accumulation. Went out for a cig about an hour ago, and the snow was blown up to the second step off the porch. Went a few minutes ago, and it's about the same. But the wind is crazy. I mean, crazy crazy. My buddy told me that they were talking about 25 ft high waves on Lake Michigan that would rip up all the ice currently there, eroding the shoreline, and throwing the ice onto Lake Shore Drive, effectively closing it down completely. And LSD is not some little piddly back road.

Oh, the band is Guided by Voices, you of the accumulated reptiles.

Re: Is it blizzard-ing by you guys too?

My dad only works a half-hour's drive from home, and yet they (his boss-persons) booked him a room at a hotel due to the storm.

It wasn't as bad as expected, though. At first it was like "like the ice storm of 2006" (which would've been horrible), then it was like "18 inches of snow" then "15 inches" then "6-12 inches". And you know what happened? We had sleet all day. No snow. Granted, having an inch or two of sleet on the ground might be a bad thing, but it's such a rare scene that I honestly have no idea how it affects road conditions and businesses. At this moment I'm sitting here with the phone in front of me, waiting to hear if my own boss-man has decided whether to open the bakery tomorrow or not.

Hopefully not. My car is sorta encased in an icey shell leftover from last night's freezing rain. Schools are closed, but that don't mean a thing. However, I heard a couple highways are closed, and that might mean a thing. There might also be some wind.

On the plus side, we still have power.

...Actually, it might be more than an inch or two of sleet on the ground. Can't really see the grass. Just how deep is this stuff...?
