Jumping to an iMac, and I have QUESTIONS.

Alright, so I'm kinda sick of all my music crap not working on windows 7 x64 so I think I'm going to make the jump to an iMac. Now I don't think I can sell my old pc/monitor for that much but I can get the expense of one of the 27 inch dealies down to a managable level but the thing is they still come with Core 2 Duo processors which are like 3 years old .

    So owners of iMacs/Macbooks/whatever.

How does boot camp work? My windows demands really aren't high or anything, I don't think I have many windows only games at all and if I do they'll all run on the core 2 duo just fine I'm sure. The most intense I get on pc is going to be Unreal Tournament 3 and I don't think that's changing anytime soon (and if TF2 and L4D2 work on mac now anyway then I'll probably hardly use windows at all). I also doubt my demands will call for more than 4GB of ram so maybe there's no need to go for the Core i5 model either?

Let me know what you think pavilion...er...Sampson too I guess.

I had the opportunity to upgrade to an intel before I graduated, but I stuck with my current machine, which is just a cage of seven cockatiels that memorize certain numbers in sequence.

I use "crossover" and it runs many windoze programs, but wont run almost as many!

Of course, all I'm trying to run are graphics programs and fractal generators. What are you trying to run?

          MOO!

It's not the programs that give me concern, it's all the music hardware I have not having drivers for win 7 x64 and nothing I'm doing seems to work (older drivers, compatibility mode).

I would be recording music with logic or reason or some other things and those ARE cpu intensive but I don't think they're nothing 4gb ram/core 2 duo can't handle. I used to be great with final cut pro but I'm pretty sure I'm done filming things forever so that shouldn't be a problem.

And yeah, KJ I wish I came to this conclusion 2 months ago when I was still in school :V

Never needed to run Boot Camp. Reason and Logic work swell on OS X. An iMac with 4gb of RAM is great. Drivers are not an issue. Most hardware is just "plug and play" on OS X.

I know next to nothing about Macs, except that they're pretty overpriced in terms of what hardware you get. That's just the nature of monoplies, though.

                  I have a 27" iMac but I don't play games on it...

I use it for multimedia stuff primarily (photo/video editing)

                  Oh, and it's awesome.

Right on, just the programs I want to run~ Plus some Cakewalk stuff.

Yeah as said I'm a little bummed out that I'll be spending so much for a machine running a C2D, I can go up to a model running a Core i5 but I don't really see the need. TF2 and L4D2 are about as crazy as I'm gonna get on it, gamewise. I'd say Unreal Tournament 3 but it turns out no one plays that online anyway :B.

Yeah I'll be doing a lot of artwork along with music. I know my way around Final Cut but I doubt I'll ever do anything with video again in the near future.

I mean, back when I was doing video there were all sorts of windows alternatives that to me were just as useful as final cut (primiere, and later I started using Avid), and it's simply not the case with music :s

How about this: Windows desktop+Mac book pro?

Ah not a bad idea but I'm really not a laptop person and then I have no money going into the mac at all that way (and they're more expensive than the iMacs)~

I suggest you don't play game anymor on a mac . The consoles are here for this .

I've a 2,66 GHz and 2GB of Ram it's running goods what I have to do with it . Listening music , Edit Video , Photo , Writing ,

I suggest you get the iWork software it's like Open Office but cheaper . 99$ can VS 130$ can . It's a great software .
