    More cold-blooded murder in Iraq

Our boys over there might have itchy trigger fingers, but this would be wholly inexcusable.

Iraq envoy accuses US of killing

Iraq's ambassador to the UN has demanded an inquiry into what he said was the "cold-blooded murder" of his young unarmed relative by US marines.

Samir Sumaidaie said his 21-year-old cousin was shot as he helped marines who were carrying out searches at his village in the restive Anbar province.

Mr Sumaidaie said the ramifications of such a "serious crime" were enormous for both the US and Iraq.

US officials said the allegations would be thoroughly investigated.

Meanwhile, a suicide bomber has killed at leat 20 people outside a special police recruiting centre in the capital Baghdad.

It is the latest in a spate of attacks targeting the country's security forces.

    English exercise

In a letter to colleagues, Mr Sumaidaie explained in detail what happened to his cousin Mohammed al-Sumaidaie on 25 June in the village of al-Sheikh Hadid.

He said Mohammed, an engineering student, was visiting his family home when some 10 marines with an Egyptian interpreter knocked on the door at 1000 local time.

He opened the door to them and was "happy to exercise some of his English", said the ambassador.

When asked if there were any weapons in the house, Mohammed took the marines to a room where there was a rifle with no live ammunition.

It was the last the family saw him alive. Shortly after, another brother was dragged out and beaten and the family was ordered to wait outside.

As the marines left "smiling at each other" an hour later, the interpreter told the mother they had killed Mohammed, said Mr Sumaidaie.

"In the bedroom, Mohammed was found dead and laying in a clotted pool of his blood. A single bullet had penetrated his neck."

The US military said the allegations "roughly correspond to an incident involving coalition forces on that day and in that general location".

Maj Gen Stephen T Johnson said the allegations were being taken seriously and would be thoroughly investigated.

Acting US ambassador to the UN, Anne Patterson, had "expressed her heartfelt condolences" to Mr Sumaidaie, said a spokesman.

She has urged the Pentagon and state department to look into the matter immediately.

"All indications point to a killing of an unarmed innocent civilian - a cold blooded murder," said Mr Sumaidaie in his letter.

"I believe this killing must be investigated in a credible and convincingly fair way to ensure that justice is done, and the sense of grievance is mitigated, and to deter similar actions in the future."

I love our foreign policies and relationships, dont you???

I have always wanted to travel outside of the US but our government is making that very unpleasant and possibly dangerous.

I know a student at my college that travelled to Belgium and was spat upon simply for being an American. It is becoming more and more common for some pockets of angry foreigners in their own nations to view Americans as nazis given the actions of our government, but thankfully those angry groups aren't the majority. Can't say I blame those groups, really, but this is inexcusable on both sides. It's disturbing just how hated America has become due to the actions of our crooked government, which we may not have even elected part of it in 2004.

He did. Sort of like how our douchebag redneck trash treat Muslims here in America.

Doesn't every group, have another group of people who hate them?

Does it even matter? The fact remains that our illegal oil war and the resulting deaths of over 100,000 people is making the rest of the world a bit angry at the United States. This incident is even more fuel for the hate.

Sounds to me like a few of our troops decided to "avenge 9/11", which is probably the reason why our army has any success at all recruiting. The irony is that these "patriots" are the same people who would likely start a civil war the moment the government tries to prevent them from owning guns.

Worse still is the fact that Iraq had absolutely nothing to do with 911, while 15 of 19 hijackers weren't Afghanis or Iraqis, but Saudis. But the U.S. gets 20% of its imported oil from Saudi Arabia, so you know they aren't going to go after them...

Then there's that explanation the government owes the American people on why it did nothing about the attacks when it knew they were being planned an entire month in advance.

Of course, a little war for 12% of the world's oil when supplies are getting short will shut people up. Otherwise, they're unpatriotic!

Seems to me 9/11 was allowed to happen because Bush wanted to make a risky military maneuver (the preemptive strike on Iraq). He needed to give America a reason to become militarily active and it fell right into his lap. The same happened with Pearl Harbor.

It wouldn't surprise me if 9/11 was intended as a dropping of the welcome mat. After all, who's to say that Bin Laden didn't know we had plans like Iraq.

The problem I see here, more than anything else, is that Bush insisted on a half-assed post-war planning effort to rebuild the country. He was too reliant on the unlikely event that we are hailed by a vast majority of the country as liberators and saviors. He also didn't count on our boys taking matters into their own hands. It's hard to play the hero with blood on your mind.

Still, we're stuck there. The Iraqi people will probably never be able to police inner dissent, much less external threats to their government, such as the Taliban and their neighbors. If we leave now, I can bet that if we aren't overthrowing another, more dangerous, regime in Iraq within the next president's first term, we're probably not going to be the same U.S. we are now.

The PNAC think tank once headed by Paul Wolfowitz specifically concluded that the U.S. would need a 'New Pearl Harbor' to justify war in the middle east to secure its oil reserves before peak oil hit. This was over a decade ago...
