Who likes board games?

Let's talk about one of the few things arguably nerdier than video games. I was introduced to a game called Settlers of Catan a couple years ago, and it renewed my childhood interest in board games.



I used to be a fan of Scrabble and Stratego, but my collection has since moved to more "Euro" style board games.

My personal favorite is Modern Art, a game where you're buying and selling artwork from other players in a series of auctions, trying to become the wealthiest art dealer. You might be competing with one other guy for a particular painting, raising up the price, but you have to keep in mind that all this money you're bidding is going to a third player (the seller of the painting), who is about to make a fortune. It's a very clever dynamic.



So anyone a board game fan? If so, what types of games do you play, what are your favorites, etc.? Monopoly is an acceptable answer, if that's what you play.

Monopoly was about the only one my siblings could sit down to, but it was one of those weekend-long things because we could never find a stopping point.

I used to play Risk, too.

A buddy from high school and college was inducted into Mensa due to his GRE scores a number of years ago, and I guess once a month, they have "board game parties." I went to a few of them, and it was mostly stuff like Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride, Carcassonne, etc. I had fun. Don't really play them, though, as most of the people I live with would have no desire to play them or whose intellect might be a bit lacking to comprehend the intracacies of said games.

i used to play several board games with my mom. i enjoyed monopoly, stock ticker, a few german games i cant pronounce, clue, and a bunch of others in my closet.

i played quite a few for lunch in grade 5 with my friends. we had one game last an entire month, was pretty epic.


edit: how could i forget scrabble. i LOVE that game, and chess too.

Last time, I played Monopoly with people (last month), I got all the light blue properties within 15 minutes. One of the two people I was playing with said, "**** this," after he landed on Connecticut...with 4 houses.

I always wanted to play risk but the only times I ever get the chance to there's only 2 of us and doesn't the first person always when in 2 player games?

So does being a board game that's been made into a video game make Catan uber-nerdy?

I love board games but haven't played any in a long time due to lack of people to play with. Me and my sister used to buy a board game from K-Mart, play it until the return date came up, and then exchange it for another one. Hey, it's techincally legal.

My favorites were Clue and Key to the Kingdom.



If I had seen that commercial I'd probably never have bought it though.

There's this god awful game I got called "HUMANS!" or something that I brought to an upstate trip with my friends to pass time with. You play as a zombie and you build up your horde by feeding on humans and stuff. The game was needlessly complex and pretty much if you broke into a building you automatically got every human that was holed up in there so games were short.

Very bleh, anyone play this or the variant where you are a human hunting zombies?

Oh wow, I haven't played board games in forever. Hell, I haven't played card games in forever either. Then again my card game was Magic the Gathering, and no amount of interest could put money in my wallet to keep up with the hardcore nerdity.

When WAS the last time I played a board game? It was Scrabble I think.

Though I was fond of a game when I was wee that is definitely not all the rage today. Maybe you remember it?

Not really. Just set up the Mouse Trap and released it. It amused me back in 1991.
