Re: What crap did you buy/get other people for Christmas?
Go a bunch of last-minute stuff at Waldenbooks after work the day before Xmas eve...lots of it stuff on clearance. Plus they had buy 4 books, get one free that day.
Brother-Some book about the greatest moments in sports history, which included 2 audio CDs so you could listen to it as it happened.
Dad-some History of the World Series book.
Mom-A non-clearance book, some guy's personal accounts of recording and touring with The Eagles (she loves The Eagles).
Mom's husband-Same thing I got my brother, except Vol 2 or something, but with a different title.
Dad's wife-A Border's (Waldenbooks) gift card...not sure what she's into.
Bill (guy I live with)-HUGE hardcover History of the US Navy book.
Monica (girl I live with...Bill's fiancee)-Some Pooh book with the original stories and drawings by A.A. Milne (she's obsessed with the Disney version of Pooh, so I gave her the REAL version).
Mark (other guy I live with)-An illustrated encyclopedia of blues and jazz.
Jacob (the son of the third guy who lives here who's staying with us for a bit)-a $20 Gamestop gift card...he's a 17 yr old kid, but we hang out and play teh vidya sometimes.
As for the kid's dad, he got nothing. He's kinda a deadbeat loser who stole about $800 from Mark and went on a 3 day bender a few days before Xmas, and we're trying to keep a sober house.
I took all the books to a Girl Scout volunteer table near the bookstore in the mall, and this girl wrapped them all for me (well, all the books, anyway). They had a sign that said they were accepting donations, so I gave her a ten dollar bill, and her eyes got all wide. It made me feel good. Then I jokingly told her I didn't want to walk around the corner and see her put it in her pocket. I thanked her, and left to the bus stop.
Seeing that girl's eyes get all wide when I gave her $10, when I'm guessing most people probably gave singles and fives, was the highpoint of my Xmas this year.
