Pretentious? Jesus Christ, is this the internet's new buzzword? You don't even know what it means nor how to apply it properly holy crap. I only insult crap that deserves to be insulted. I don't say **** about Pixar or some of Dreamwork's stuff but every company that thinks "Hey, let's get rich quick by riding on the coattails of popular product!" is the cancer that is killing the market and if you disagree you hate the market.
There is no excuse to accept products of mediocre quality in the market. Spending money on garbage sends a clear message to the hacks that make this that it's okay to continue with unoriginal uninspired work.
Aside from the destruction of a set, the crew was in complete shambles. Kosner demanded a ritzy hotel to stay at, they had several rewrites of the script and score mid-filming, Kosner was given too much power over the film by making him both star and producer, and all the various injuries began to add up.
Point is, it was completely inefficient and the budget was ridiculous. Inefficiency is the death of all business I thought this lesson was well known.
And holy ****, you same TWO guys sure love to disagree with me. I could say the sky is blue and the grass is green but NO MARCUS U R WRONG THE GRASS WOULD BE BETTER PURPLE WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU. Actually, I thought Waterworld went over budget because all the water sets they used were artificial and the huge sets got destroyed a few times. :V
No, it's much more fun to blindly assume things about the way a film set or filmmaking works.
You have to understand, CG movie release usually = $$$$
...the thing is the market is starting to become saturated and people are getting sick of it. No one cares about Fly Me To The Moon and Space Chimps because they've already seen enough CG movies this year...that and they suck. Still, that never stopped audiences before.
I bet a decent 2D movie will come out and rake because people haven't seen a 2D cartoon movie in theatres in a while.
