since they can't force you to read the Bible like they should
    That's actually a good idea...

          Re: To Kill A Mockingbird

I was never forced to read To Kill a Mockingbird in high school. The regular English classes I think might have had to read that. But I was in the "advanced" English classes. So I've not read it or seen the movie to this day. I don't even know what it's about. Come to think of it, I never read Slaughterhouse Five, either. Or Catcher in the Rye. Damn, I guess I was missing out by being "advanced."

I lucked out and got the English class that read "Of Mice and Men" instead of "Tale of Two Cities." Heh, suckers.
The Cyclops having only one eye, needed to seek shelter from the harsh sun. The shadow cast by the spheres gave him temporary respite.

Same here. My "Of Mice and Men" project was the best too.

              THE BEST.

                Re: To Kill A Mockingbird

Yeah, I had to write four papers freshman year for this one class. One was on Oedipus Rex, one was on Antigone, and I forget what the others were about. Each one was at least 20 pages handwritten (he didn't let us use word processors/computers), and each misspelled word/grammatical error/MISSHAPED LETTER (we had to learn cursive all over again in this teacher's previous class) counted as one letter grade off. And because I ALWAYS procrastinated, and did these papers the night before they were due, writing 20 pages worth of material tends to get your hand cramped up, and will result in poorly-shaped letters. We got a content grade over a mechanics grade. I think the highest grade I ever saw anyone get in that class was a C-. But it was a ruse. If you did your work, were insightful, and showed improvement, he gave you an A for your final grade anyway.

Then junior year, with the same teacher, we had to write a paper (it had to be typed this time) that used no more than 70 sentences. Any sentence over 70 would be a letter grade off. The thing is, these papers (due to the subject we were writing on, and needing to include a lot of information/our own conclusions) needed to be about as long as the ones we had written freshman year. And it was EXTREMELY hard to fit all that information into 70 sentences. So needless to say, the sentences ended up being these enormous monstrosities that sometimes were 3-5 type-written lines long, but were grammatically correct. Okay, and here's the kicker....we needed to diagram EVERY SENTENCE in the essay. Sometimes I had trouble fitting a single diagram on one page, because it would inevitably have like 4-5 things going off the main subject/predicate line, and then sometimes 2-3 things going off of each of those.

So, yeah, it was probably the most work I've ever needed to do in any class I've ever taken, but it felt so gratifying to earn the A's I got in each of his classes. I mean, his were almost the only classes where I felt I actually EARNED my A. Most of my other classes, I barely put forth any effort, and got A's anyway, even though they were mostly honors classes.

And look where I am now....*sigh*
