    Re: What is "art?"

...and yet critics won't say games can be art...when I've seen a guy paint w/ using paint enemas...in my college textbook.

In all seriousness, I think the line between art and entertainment is a very blurry one indeed. For years, people didn't consider film to be an artform because of what it was usually used for. If something purposefully evoke an emotional reaction from someone, then it's art...and that's when we get into the shady territory of urinals signed by people and crap-in-a-can in haughty taughty galleries.

    So what is art? ...eh.

Bill Watterson put it best, "As my artist's statement explains, my work is utterly incomprehensible and is therefore full of deep significance."

Today's art world is something rich people use to make themselves feel superior to everyone else.
      ...and that's why.

I've been told by several snotty art professors that cartoons are not art.

One of them informed me of this, and then got a call from a client looking for any cartoonist from our university that would be able to do a freelance job with a less than 24-hour turnaround.

Since the only other people around were artists, she gave the phone to me.

              1) The conscious production or arrangement of sounds, colors, feelings, movements, or other components in a manner that is aesthetically pleasing.

              2) An easy way to make money from certain gullible people of dull to normal intelligence.

              3) Something that is very fun to do while intoxicated.

I remember this one guest on the Colbert report. The internet is filled with amature art and is ruing the art community.

                  Re: What is "art?"

We're on the verge of an art world climate change, I think. Instead of art being something only snooty people enjoy, it's becoming something everyone has access to and can have an opinion about, even more so now that the Internet is around.

Artists are challenged to identify themselves as artists in the purest of sense. Some 'shock' artists believe that the only way to be recognized in the art world these days is to do something shocking, like vomiting or paint enemas, or **** Christs. Creating a controversy over whether or not your artwork can be considered art, has in itself become an art form.

Hopefully he was really crusty, because crusty old men have lots of pride for being crusty.

Old men are happiest when they have lots of 13-25 year old girls/women to flirt with, lots of liquor to drink, a face that is so saggy that they can do weird things with it and scare little kids, lots of CRUSTY skin flakes on their body(enough to chaff off and rub on people's clothing, and wad into balls and fling them at people), nosehairs down to their lips, a stench of oldspice, liquor, and urine, a Cadillac car(the bigger the better), a good pair of dentures, an aesthetically jarring display of back acne, a regular supply of prunes, and plenty of porn and viagra.

These dudes are living the dream. Every man should strive for this when they are old. I hope old Art got to live that dream.
