    Desktops Vs. Laptops

    http://tech.msn.com/guides/backtosch...9414&gt1=10348

Getting in my two cents, I want to say that while laptops are more abundant on the college scene than ever before, I still cannot adapt to these contractions. When I type on a laptop's keyboard, it feels "unnatural" than when I type on one affiliated with the desktop. I really don't mind carrying the stuff needed to hook up the desktop computer either (monitor, CPU, etc.). Oh, and I do apologize for those using laptops, but I loathe the touch-mouse application. It makes my surfing the net much slower for me. So, Pavvies, I must ask: what is your preference and why?

desktops are good for gaming and creating stuff, cuz if you need power, it's going to be cheaper. Otherwise, might as well get a lappy to be your internets machine.

Yes, portability is a plus with laptops, but do you find yourself "slowing down more" than when you're on a desktop, Valk?

Uh, I have both a desktop and a laptop and I'm more accustomed to using the laptop. Then again, because I travel so frequently I have to use my laptop this much. But even at home where my desktop is, I prefer using the laptop in the living room.

And I hate laptop touchpads too. That's why I use a mouse. And sometimes a separate keyboard, although that's not as necessary.

Also, the specs of my new laptop completely kick my desktop's arse. And it better considering I forked out $1500 on this thing.

I like laptops. I never really take them anywhere but it's nice to have the option and I can lay in my bed while wasting time on the internet or whatever and not worry about taking up space in my room with a desktop.

I hate laptops, dealing with batteries is a pain in the ass, you can't upgrade them and you can't get nice screens for them unless you pay big big bucks.

I would get a desktop for power, Laptop for portability.

Heck right now I am just using my laptop to play PS2 games while watching TV. You can't move around a Desktop easily.

My laptop has been very kind to me the past 4 years, aside from motherboard issues. I'm accustomed to the touchpad, but I do prefer mouse. The battery life isn't so bad on mine since I can swap out the CD drive for an extra battery to extend it to 5 hours or so. Really handy note taker in classes too.

My only beef with it is, I can't play powerhouse games like I want to. Not only does my processor overheat, but the graphics card isn't able to be upgraded since it's Dell specific. The next computer I get will definitely have to be a desktop. I just hope this laptop lasts me that long. It's already passed warranty.
                  ...and that's why.

I think he means slowdown with laptops. If laptops overheat they get sluggish and slow down. Which is why if I am playing a game on my laptop I usually put a fan underneath it.

I'm talking specifically about the touch-screen application. I mean, when I use a mouse, I feel like I have more control over what I do, and therefore find it easier and faster to use when I surf the internet or due other tasks. I was just curious as to the laptop slowing down your ability to do normal computer functions.

Thanks for the backup, Red Dragon.

USB ports are amazing. A keyboard and mouse can just plug into those and the "feel" is the same.

Why would I need a laptop? I can't watch porn on a bus.

                              I'm a desktop man.
