The Harry Potter Spoiler Topic. Now you can't cry if you ruin it for yourself
Re: The Harry Potter Spoiler Topic. Now you can't cry if you ruin it for yourself
I could not have hoped for more. It was, quite honestly, more succinct and well thought out then I thought the series could be.
Every knot that is unraveled is tied again, and the roles that Snape, Neville, and Harry's parents play all really kind of make the book. I love the Battle of Hogwarts, seeing all of the teachers, friends, advisers, creatures, and acquaintances all come together for a final battle was all I could have ever hoped for. Seeing a brave, proud, and powerful resistance, especially from McGonagall made me smile, as I always really liked her character. And who could forget Mrs. Weasly's last stand? It was the moment in the book that I smiled the broadest, where a strong, but kind character shows her true colors, all to save her daughters life. It was amazing.
I only can think of two complaints, though. The first being the fact that the only deaths I really felt were Dobby's and Fred's, not to mention Hedwigs... everyone else was just there to add to the body count, I thought. And after the final duel, which was marvelously written, comes crashing down, it is hurried towards the end in just a few paragraphs. I would have liked to see a whole chapter devoted to the immediate aftermath of the Death Eater's defeat. Oh, and one final complaint, although minor. I almost wish there would not have been an epilogue, as, from a literally standpoint, I really hate events set so far into the future as to be so definite. But that is a personal preference, after all.
Re: The Harry Potter Spoiler Topic. Now you can't cry if you ruin it for yourself
Yeah, I don't know how to make those spoiler things...
I called Neville being the Herbology teacher! I totally knew it!
Also, Rowling claimed that there was something more to Petunia...I'm a bit disappointed with the anti-climacticness of what it was.
I do like how despite not being alive, this is the only book that Dumbledore plays a continuous role in...and the ending scene with him was cool...but he's a pervert if he likes to see Harry w/out his clothes on.
The deaths...I wasn't convinced about Mad Eye at first, until we find out what happened at Umbridge's office (god I hate that woman!). Tonks and Lupin were cool characters...but I felt that throughout the entire series, they weren't played up enough to really make too much of an emotional impact. Also, Fred...there was no time for us to experience the remorse of his family afterwards.
I remember Rowling said she would probably be making side-stories to tie up loose ends and add more to the magical world. I think she really needs to! I mean, ****...I've invested 7 books of reading into getting to know many of these characters and the epilogue is shorter than a regular chapter.
Who became the new Headmaster? What happened with all the Death Eaters? There were a lot of ****ing funerals...how did people react...I know Harry had a 180 turn on Snape. Who's the new Minister of Magic? Have relations between Wizards and other magical creatures improved? Is little Teddy werewolf-ish (or did I miss that explanation?)? What other events have happened in the intervening years?
Re: The Harry Potter Spoiler Topic. Now you can't cry if you ruin it for yourself
I think it's safe to assume that McGonnagal was named headmaster and that Neville will take her place eventually.
I know one thing I'm very interested in know is how various people were remembered. Was Snape exonerated in the public eye? Did wizards remember the role that people like Dobby and the other magical creatures played? And not only is it is Teddy a werewolf but what about Lavender Brown?
But the biggest problem I can see is that I don't necessarily want another novel. Maybe more like a director's cut version or something.
The Cyclops having only one eye, needed to seek shelter from the harsh sun. The shadow cast by the spheres gave him temporary respite.

I really enjoyed the book as well. Finally after two days, I finished it.
I believe she really should have given us more info on what Harry and the others are doing. I mean they have a lot of kids to feed. I would have to think they got some good jobs for saving the world.
Re: The Harry Potter Spoiler Topic. Now you can't cry if you ruin it for yourself
I want to see more fleshing out of the Harry Potter universe. I doubt she'll try for more novels, at least for quite some time, but I kinda like the 'textbook' idea she did with Magical Beasts and Quidditch. Let's see more of that, but maybe something along the lines of "Magical History Through the Ages", to provide a backdrop for the books, or better yet, "Notable Wizards and Witches of Our Time", to wrap up what became of everyone and everything surrounding the fall of Voldemort.

I started reading at 4pm, finished at 2:45 am.
Absolutely loved it!
*** SPOILERS ***
I knew that Snapes murder of Dumbledore was staged, and that it happened because Dumbledore was dying (although i honestly had no idea why). I honestly thought that Draco would actually turn on the Death Eaters and Voldemort, and was kinda surprised how that turned out.
I knew the deaths were coming, but i was very happy with the way she turned Harry's death into Voldemorts final undoing. Although, for some reason, i had this idea that the mark was going to disappear once he was no longer a horcrux.
I liked the little epilogue she did, even if it was DAMNED predictable, but i think she wanted it that way.

She's already stated the only further Potter books she's planned to do where more of those textbook type ones and that all the procedes will go to charity. I like the idea of doing a notable wizards one and giving follow up on Harry and everyone else that way.

There were so many awesome scenes in the book, from the escape of the Minstry of Magic to the breaking of Gridgots, to the final battle.
I was half expecting all the schools to come together, but I guess it was a battle no one had planned out. Which explains Voldmort's lack of undead soldiers.
I really enjoyed when Harry played dead and managed to come out of the cloak in time to save everyone.
Re: The Harry Potter Spoiler Topic. Now you can't cry if you ruin it for yourself
Well, I just finished it too. I liked it. Not a lot. But I did like it.
For some reason, it seemed like everything in the book draaaaggged until they went into Hogwarts. Once they got there, for the final chapters, it fealt like "Ok, now the story's going to get going!"
I fealt like the Deathly Hallows thing was kind of rediculuous. In fact, the one problem I had with the book was that it was overly unbelievable. I mean, i get the magic and all that stuff, fantasy world, but the feats that they pulled off were so far fetched and unreal.

Harry didn't die because the Elder Wand was actually loyal to him, and it refused to kill it's true owner. Besides, magic is nothing but a big gray area, if Voldemort, had, say, shot him, he would have died. But since he used a killing curse, he lived, because the laws of magic can be bent.

See thats the exact rediculousness I hated about the whole book. It just shows that JK Rowling had none of this really planned out and then just kind of made it up as she went along with the last two books.
Re: The Harry Potter Spoiler Topic. Now you can't cry if you ruin it for yourself
Yeah that wand thing was wacky.
Dumbledore was the master of the wand, but then Draco disarmed him near the end of book 6. So, now Draco is the master of the wand, but he doesn't know it or have it, as it's in Dumbledore's tomb. Then, Harry takes Draco's usual wand, which apparently the Elder Wand recongnizes as meaning it has a new master?
