Stranger RPG Walkthrough
V. 1.2
Submitted to:
"Return to Glory Contest"

Technical Information

Stranger was created by me (Josh) and my sister, Sarah. Work started in December of 2000,
and was not completed until February 9/02. Work is expected to continue even after the contest.

V. 1.2 was to be used only for the RPGM Pavilion "Return to Glory" contest, but is now
available on the Pavilion web site. Look out for later versions in the future.

Stranger may contain glitches, bugs, and the usual riff-raff. If anything seriously hinders
gameplay to the point of un-playability, please contact me at starwars_kenobi@hotmail.com

Introduction

This guide does not necessarily contain a walkthrough, but rather a collection of suggestions.
If, during the playing process, any questions or problems arise, this guide may be consulted.
Stranger is a game of adventure, and it relies heavily on story and character development rather
than strategy and battles (no thanks to that crappy battle system of course...).
Please keep an open mind during the game, as it is my first crack at RPG Maker, and may not be
so up-to-snuff. Also, gameplay is heavily influenced by the choices you make during the game.
I was inspired by games such as Fallout and Baldur's Gate to make a game that is full of choices,
letting the player do what he/she wants. There are quite a few in Stranger, so it is worth playing
twice just to do everything there is to do. Keep in mind that this guide is strictly storyline.
There are so many other things you can do in the game. Explore, and have fun.

*****WARNING, SPOILERS BELOW*****

Overview

Stranger follows the story of a young boy named Xavier (Zev), whose role you assume.
Zev is not a very highly defined character because his nature is mostly determined by the player.
So, buckle up, do what you want, and enjoy the ride. Again, please keep in mind that this walkthrough
only outlines the bare bones of the game, and includes only the parts you may have trouble with.

Walkthrough

The first number of cut scenes are pretty self-explanatory. The only thing that is tricky is the first,
and nearly only battle in the game. Try to figure out the strategy first.

Suggested Strategy:
Opponent: Algar- HP 9999, MP 400
*He is mainly a magic user, so search your spell options and cast Magic Barrier.
*Then, syphon MP from him until you reach 99
*Cast Apocalypse, which will clean him out in one hit.
*Heal without with your skill when appropriate.

Next, assuming the role of Zev, deliver the letter to Reowan, and continue back to Star of Ewes to the desert
in the south. Continue south to the Empty Lot. Proceed down the stairs and into the basement.

Go to Jalvantia and speak to the old lady in the house in the bottom-right corner. When you get to Maris,
the ONLY way to get Captain Mallory to speak to you is first talk to the man in the upper right house, and
then to Mallory in the bar.

The puzzle in the swamp might take you a while, but just keep hitting switches until you get it. There
should be a platform that appears after a while on the west side. Keep hitting switches until it appears.

Travel to the Capital City, and proceed to the Library in Section 4. Try and figure out what to do next.
If you can't figure it out, proceed as follows:

--------Look at the bookshelf on the first floor that is located in the centre row near the middle. You
should find a book with blank pages. Go to the edge of the room with the odd out stone pillar near the wall.
Insert the book into the bookcase nearest to it, and read the journal in the hidden room.----------

Petition the ruler with your questions, and let the events proceed as they may. After you get out of the castle,
you will eventually wind up in the passage to the arena. Next, go to the Black Market in section 3, and get a lock-pick.

Proceed to the portal in the castle and continue with the story. Insert Card #3 (in some cases go back to your
dex and clean out card 2 and replace it with card 3) and save your game.

In the Elven Capital, go to the large "C" shaped house and go inside it.

The only thing in the Elven Mage's lair that might give you trouble is the second torch puzzle. The CORRECT torches
to light are the top left and the bottom right.

The final boss is the second and last real battle in the game. The strategy is pretty straight forward. Have
Kerwin heal while Zev attacks and Ettore uses magic. If anyone dies, use a Phoeinx down to revive them immediately.

That's pretty much it. If you have any more questions or problems, just e-mail me.
Have fun with the game! (Insert happy' emoticon here)
