MEMORY

It is greatly recommended that you own three PS1 Memory Cards with 100% free space. While it is possible to switch out the memory using the InterAct DexDrive, doing so would prove rather inconvenient. All the custom art for Jester's Hunt is spread across all three cards, so all three will be needed at the same time when you boot up the game. Just swap out the cards when needed.

The art on the cards have been arranged as conveniently as possible. When booting up the game, it scans through the art on the card holding Worlds 1-3, then Worlds 4-6, and finally in the System Data card, so put in those cards at all times.

You will have to switch between both Scenario Data cards more than once, if you end up trying to find everything in the game.

There is one open slot for saving your progress on the System Data card. You are given the option to save every time you leave a world, and after you get the first Trophy.

GAMEPLAY:

Jester's Hunt is a scavenger-hunt game, much like Rareware's Banjo-Kazooie series. Most of the gameplay is collecting Trophies, Tokens, and other items, all while exploring, fighting battles in a customized semi-realtime battle system, and playing in an assortment of minigames.

Basic gameplay is a simple as using the D-Pad to walk around, and the X button to activate various events (including chatting with NPCs). Doors are automatically opened by stepping into them. Several tutorials and the like will talk about various other gameplay.

THE MENU:

The menu, of course, can be opened by pressing the [] (Square) button on your controller. The following are options in the menu, followed their descriptioins:

IGNORE - Normally where the item menu goes. This menu is useless in this game, as it is being used to keep track of various info in the game by taking the place of switches and variables.

Abilty - Shows a list of Abilities that you have learned. Abilities and Moves are explained in the game.

Status - Shows various info on your progress in the game.

The small box right above Hearts and Crystl tells the name of the world you are currently in.

Hearts: Your current/maximum HP. It goes down when you take damage. If it hits 0, you get a Game Over and are placed back at the start of the current Scenario Card. There is no real penalty for losing.

Crystl: Your current/maximum MP. It goes down any time you use an MP-consuming Move. If it hits 0, you will not be able to use those Moves.

Tokens: Shows the amount of Tokens you have collected so far. These are used to learn Moves and Abilities in the various shops in the game.

Trophy: Shows the amount of Trophies you are currently holding.
Trophies are used to gain access to each world.

Total: Shows the total amount of Trophies you have collected in the game.

?Token: Shows the total amount of ? Tokens you have collected in the game. These are used to raise your Max Hearts or Crystals.

Abilty GRD: Not a real status. It is only there because it could not be blanked out.

Moves - Shows a list of Moves that you have learned.

Settings - Please refer to the RPG Maker instruction manuals for info on this option.

ITEMS

Please note that there is no available checklist in Jester's Hunt. Though one would have proven useful, it would have taken too much work and memory to include one. If you want to keep track of your progress, you will need to make a checklist of your own. Here's some info that will get you started.

* Aside from the hub world, there are 6 worlds in the game.
* Each world has 5 Trophies, except the sixth, which only has 4. There are a total of 34 Trophies in the game.
* Each world has 50 Tokens. There are no Tokens in the hub world. There are a total of 300 Tokens in the game.
* Each world has 2 ? Tokens. One raises HP, the other raises MP. There are no ? Tokens in the hub world. There are a total of 14 ? Tokens in the game.
* Some places have extra items to collect. (i.e. World 2's Pearls)

There is an online site available for Jester's Hunt, complete with a guide. A link to the site can be found at:

ABOUT THE PASSWORD

There is no password required to edit Jester's Hunt. Feel free to take a look at it and see how I was able to do a few things. You can edit it if you want. I also give full permission to take JH's engine and use it in your own RPGM1 game, or create your own JH: Special Edition, and even release it at rpgmpavilion.com or rpgmmag.com. But if you do release it, you MUST give it a different name (whether adding the letters DX or changing the name completely), and you MUST give partial credit to me. If you fail to do either, I have the full right to request that the game be taken back off the net, and will use this document to prove my case if necessary.

JESTER'S HUNT 3D

Yes, I am planning on releasing a sequel. You'll be sure to see Mr. Knight and Jester return, along with maybe a few cameos, and both new and returning characters.

VERSION INFO

Version 1.01 - Original version given to Valkysas (veteran and moderator at rpgmpavilion.com's forums) for the No-DBS contest. Was very buggy and had lots of typos, due to rush in development and little time to test. Released August 25, 2003.

Version 1.02 - Second version given to Valkysas. Fixed two fatal bugs (and a few minor ones), and fixed bug that prevented viewing of special feature of the secret room. Saw limited release. Released August 27, 2003.

Version 1.03 - The first version to land on the Jester's Hunt web site. Several typos were fixed, and some minor bugs ironed out. Release date unknown.

Version 1.04 - Ironed out most if not all of the remaining bugs, and fixed all found typos. Editing to the engine done to reduce memory used, resulting in the opening of a second save slot. Changed the locations of a few items, and made token collecting flow more smoothly by having the player walk on to the tokens instead of into. Reduced load times created by bad scripting at the entrances of worlds 4-6. Included this ReadMe manual for first time. Released for review at rpgmmag.com April 4, 2004. Public release not reached at time of completion.

Version 1.05 - Fixed bug that could prevent the player from getting to the second card, and another bug that prevented the player from accessing the Trophy bonus more than once. Fixed dialogue to make a little easier to read. Added title screen, which reduced the amount of save slots available back to just one. Merged intro card "Ha ha ha" with "Worlds 1-3" card.

Version 1.06 - Fixed text errors created from changing text around in previous version. Fixed bug when returning to the "Worlds 1-3" card from the "Worlds 4-6" card, also created at previous version. Deleted a web site advertisement sign near the start of the game.

Jester's Hunt was created by "Draygone", president and currently only employee of Great Dragon Gaming, with inspiration coming from Rare UKs Banjo-Kazooie series. May the next B-K game be the best in the series.
