    People with glasses.

guess this is one of those asking for advice topics.

You see, I havn't been able to wear glasses for about four years, I never had problems with contacts.

I used to wear glasses as a kid starting at around age 12, I never had any problems with them, I didn't have to wear them most of the time because my vision wasn't so bad. I kept breaking my glasses and started wearing contacts, and just stopped wearing glasses all together. I bought a pair of glasses, three years ago. I couldn't even wear them for ten minues without them hurting my eyes. Call me a wimp but it was really bad, it was almost like having a painful tooth ache but in my eyes, it really turned me off to glasses, I got my eyes checked again and they thought it might be because I have a slight astigmatism, and this explained why I could wear contacts with no problems. But I didn't bother getting glasses again, mainly because I got my eyes checked twice and tried two different pairs of glasses. Then maybe about a month ago I got my eyes checked again so I could get some glasses, it is at the point now where I need something to see all the time. I was told the astigmatism in my right eye was gone and barely even there in the left eye. So I got another pair of glasses, and they're straining my eyes, not nearly as bad as before mind you. But everytime I wear them I get headaches, itchy eyes, and discomfort in my eyes.

I guess I'm wondering if this happended to anyone before and what they did about it. I'm going back to the store maybe tonight or tomorrow. And I'm probably going to get my eyes checked again. It's just realy annoying the lengths I had to go through to get some damn glasses, and every pair I get isn't right. About the astigmatism, it supposedly isn't bad enough to cause me any problems.

Well when you first started wearing glasses did they bother your eyes?

I'm just afraid of damaging my eyes. They really do strain my eyes, no where near as bad as before though.

My glasses messed with my eyes for a few days. I was lax with them the first summer, and then when school started and I wore them again I got headaches. Now I just wear them all the time, and it works.

Yeah they strained my eyes, but you know, I could read the chalkboard and street signs.

My depth perception was also messed up. Walking on/off curbs and steps was a trip.

                  Ride it out.

Maybe I'm being a baby, but there was definitely something up that time three years ago, it was confirmed by a doctor. Maybe I'm just letting that get to me. Well, they're giving me a head-ache right now, and my left eye hurts.

For the record though, I like the way I look in them, I want to keep them and maybe grow my hair longer sort of like Maynard did when he was in A perfect Circle, see how that looks. However, if I go cross eyed, or one eye starts looking the other way I will kill the my optometrist and everyone in the glasses store.

Maybe you need to go to someone else. Some of those eye places are crap.

I finally got glasses a few years ago after needing them nearly my whole life. I never wear them. They're disorienting and uncomfortable and only useful when it comes to reading things far away which I hardly ever do anyway. And they break to easily. Whole lot of trouble for nothing.

                            Re: People with glasses.

About three years ago, I did this Lens Crafters "Gift of Sight" program where they give low income (or in my case, no income) people free glasses. I got a pair of Armani frames for free. Before that, when I had a car, especially delivering pizza, sometimes at night I would literally stop my car, get out and walk up to the street sign to see what street I was on, then get back in and continue driving. Then I couldn't read house numbers either, so sometimes I would just walk up to a random house to see the house number, then walk either right or left to get to the house I needed. Yeah, my eyes were bad. But I was vain. I thought I looked bad with glasses, so I didn't get them. And I don't think I can wear contacts (anything gets even close to my eye, and it starts tearing up like there's no tomorrow). So that's my story.

Well, glasses hurt your eyes when you first get them. For me it took about a week to adjust, then I started wearing them 24/7. And with your eye astigmatism, it might be that it acts up in certian weather conditions. My friend has something like that, but it only happens when it's cold. So, good luck, but if all else fails, stay with contacts. They help alot more, in my opinion.
