PS3 questions – Import games and online stores

Here are a few questions to those who actually have the PS3, and which might make me reconsider never getting one:

    - Is it true that the PS3 has no region-lock and can play any region PS3 games (PAL, NTSC/J, etc)?
    - Has anyone tried it out, does it play all games or just a select few?
    - Does the PS3 also play PS1/PS2 import games?

    Online:

    - When downloading mods and extra stuff for games (like Oblivion), is it like the XB360 where you have to buy points to purchase these downloads?

If the PAL PS3 can play NTSC/US games, I might not have to wait till next year to get it, since they’ll be releasing them soon over here in good ol Germania.
(Hell, probably don’t need a darn transformer to convert energy either!)

Since it's so darn expensive over here (600 EUROS = $750USD) I doubt they'll be sold out.

    Many thanks in advance!

I'm pretty sure it's region free. IGN had an article where they tried PS1/PS2 imports, but apparently the backwards compatibility is still not region free.

Playstation Store doesn't use points, just good old dollars and cents (or whatever currency applies). So you don't have to worry about buying 2000 points when you only want to spend 500 and so on. You just pay what it costs, plain and simple.

The PS3 can play any PS3 game from any region.
It cannot play PS2/PS1 games except from its same region.

And the PS3 store uses regular currency, not points like the XBLMarketplace.

He said it shorter though. Points for brevity.
