Of course this sounds extremely silly. There's a tiny bit of similarities you'll see in this video...
That wasn't near enough to convince me (chord progressions get used over and over again all the time in western music). But seeing some of the people who worked with MJ and on the game...my answer is a resounding and definite: MAYBE.

Man oh man. Those are some of my favorite Sonic songs too!

Seeing those pics of MJ playing Sonic is disturbingly incriminative.

And some of those MJ/Sonic3 mixes are KICKASS.

I had a copy of THRILLER on vinyl. Back when I was six I thought Michael Jackson was the coolest person alive, next to Spider-man and Han Solo.

For a long time they claimed he didn't do the voice of his sound-alike character on the simpsons, but that was recently debunked. I wonder if this is true?

the "whoo" sound in the miniboss theme sounds like it is jackson's voice.

just think: if they had advertised the game with Jackson having done the music, might it have started a trend of popular artists writing songs for games?
...probably not, but it's cool to think about. it's a thriller for nerds to talk about :3
