    Advice for a singer

No, not me. My boyfriend, Xeno.

See, he can sing. Really well...he was in a bunch of musical plays in high school, gets standing ovations and kareoke bars (you should hear his version of Prince's "Kiss"), and has sung lead for a couple bands. We just haven't had the best time trying to find a way to utilize his talent. He was going to go on American Idol, and we're confident he could make it to the Hollywood level at least, but he didn't want to do it because he's not confident in his image (being an African American albino and all) and he wanted to focus on getting training for an animation job for the long term future.

I know there's a few musicians out there, so I thought I'd cast a line out for the hell of it. Any advice? Thanks.

Well...what kind of advice are you looking for?

Seems like you pretty much covered everything...

There's actually this really good singer here in Austin who's a blalbino. I don't know his name though. It's funny to me cause he's what I picture in my mind whenever you mention Xeno.

I'll see if I can dig something up or maybe Nixon knows cause he's really bad ass.

Highwind, I was looking for advice regarding exposure or whether to maybe go through an agent er something, stuff like that. I'm trying to get him to put more stuff on the web as well.

Umm, I wouldn't really go with samples online. Do the traditional thing and use demo tapes or something.

Well and there is a million singers and bands out there...a lot of my favorite bands don't have the most technically good singers...but it works with the music.

I know nothing about the industry as it applies to singers, but I am a singer, so I could help with like, actual voice tips? I dunno.

A shot of whiskey mixed with honey taken (I sip it, but you could probably shoot it too) right before a singing engagement helps to loosen up the vocal cords a bit so you don't damage them.

I think American Idol is at least worth a shot. the worst that can happen is they tell him to go home.
