Boy Arrested For Opening Xmas Gift Early (http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/1205062xmas1.html)

Mother has kid, 12, nabbed after Nintendo Game Boy is unwrapped

DECEMBER 5--A South Carolina boy, 12, was arrested Sunday morning after his mother called police to report that he had unwrapped a Christmas present without her permission. According to a Rock Hill Police Department report (a copy of which you'll find below), the child opened a Nintendo Game Boy, though he had been directed not to by family members. When the boy's mother learned that the $85 gift had been opened, she called cops, who charged the juvenile with petty larceny. In an interview with The Herald newspaper, the boy's mother, a 27-year-old single parent, described her son as a disruptive child, noting that she hoped his arrest would serve as a corrective to disorderly behavior at school and home.

I can't believe the cops actually arrested him. WTF? They should've arrested her for wasting their time. The kid's already been in trouble and been arrested and she's adding a theft charge to his record for unwrapping a Christmas present? Yeah, I wonder why the kid's so messed up to begin with. :shakefist

NOTE: The police report (included with the article) refers to it as a "Play station Game Boy".

Well she seems kinda desperate to do anything to teach her stupid kid a lesson. Hell they should have kept him a few days in a jail cell, with some other guys in the cell beside him the whole time.

I think the Police where having a slow day. They thought it would be funny to teach this kid a lesson.

I find this to be awsome in so many ways.

Today's lesson is DISCIPLINE.

Whatever happened to "if you don't behave, you don't get any presents?" I would've taken the game boy away and punished him further. No Christmas for you! Bah.

That's awesome. I'm going to have my children arrested one day.

I really hate storys like this; when parents waste police time and money to prove a point to their kids I mean.

The parent needed to be smarter than this.

Put FAKE PRESENTS under the tree, people! Don't pull out the real deal until the big day!

I unmasked my Genesis back in the day, forcing my parents to learn that particular lesson the hard way.

At least I still got it.

I find this fairly amusing, if a little uncalled for.

All kids pull shenanigans like this. We used to search the house for Christmas presents every year, but we only found the stash once. It was a jackpot though. I opened up WCW vs. NWO for N64, threw Pilotwings back in the box, wrapped it up again, and clotheslined my friends for a solid three weeks. Good clean fun, and nobody got arrested.

Either always found the stash or peeked through the wrapping paper.

Never got arrested or shot, though.

I grab an extra roll of tape and one of those sliver knifes...you can't even tell they've been open! Told my foreign exchange bro what we got him yesterday(Guitar Hero one and two with guitars) and he was like "Woah man I can't believe it!" *in really foreign accent* and then I'm like yeah but now you have to suffer and wait and ACT really surprised when you open it.

It's alot easier when you never give each other gifts like my family. Easier but so so depressing.

Well, I shouldn't say never because that's not true. The last time I got a Christmas present from my mom was 95 I think. So not exactly never. I can say never as far as gifts on any other holidays or my birthday though.

My sister and I once peeked at a couple presents the year Ocarina came out on N64.

She then proceeded to tell my mom on the both of us.
