I just went really crazy running my hyperactive dog. I'm really out of shape now that i havent been running track (even when i ras running track this still happend) After a couple of minutes of dry heaving i puked all over the place. My dog promptly licked it up.

Nice! :lol

Yeah, you have to ease back into most types of exercise.

They're been a few times when I started playing raquetball again, only to be nearly floored by the intense aches and pains the following day. I stretch and warm up before I start, but it never seems to help.

i hate dry heaving, i even tryed to make myself throwup to relieve the agony.

Man, I love the next day aches and pains. The only thing better is that near exhaustion after a really good work out.

Hyper Dingo

yeah i did enjoy that, also it makes food taste oh so much better and you can eat all you want and not gain weight because you're burning so much calories. <3 I did enjoy track. I was pretty good too, broke records, fastest in the school...which isnt saying much. Even went to states.

That's not cross country. That's track. Cross country is 3.1 miles.

Hyper Dingo

yeah i know, i hate cross country lol distance isnt my thing, no endurance.

IRC

Heh, I hate cross country kids. I ran track for football and I'd run the 1600 and 800. I'd do okay during meets until we got to district and all the cross country kids would show up for the mile. We'd be stacked up three to a lane. Still beat placed in middle of the pack.

Other fun stories are during my junior year on the jv team when the track coach decided to fill spots and have me run the 200, 400, and 1600 relay.

I'm actually proud of all my fourth and fifth place medals considering I was a offensive lineman.

Hyper Dingo
12-03-2006, 04:04 PM
yeah Track is good for football, we had a bunch of football jocks join the track team. Which takes a lot of balls considering from what i gather track is a "*****" sport.

I use to be in track. My dad was the coach and I said I'd go out if I never had to run a race. Worked out for the most part. I long jumped, high jumped, pole vaulted, shot putted, and threw the disc. I was actually pretty good and always placed. I did end up running race because we needed the extra points to win the meet. I almost died :-( Well afterwards anyways. To me it's retarded they try and make a track a team thing. The only time it's a team thing is if it's a relay. Screw team points.

That's dumb as hell. That's why it's a great team sport. Everyone's important even laggy-ass bums like you NASH LOL

I ran track in the spring and winter but cross country was my favorite. It was awful at first, getting in shape and all that, but once I was able to run 3, 4 miles without stopping - holy ****, did that feel great. Y'know, being in the best shape of my life and all. I regained some of that endurance over this past summer but there's no way I'm gonna be in peak physical shape like I was then. Unless I turn into CHRISTIAN BALE OR SOMEONE LOL

I wasn't the best or the worst runner of the team, perhaps ranking 7th or 8th. We had an amazing team with great athletes so I could've been the best runner if I went to any other school. Soccer players, football players, tennis players. Some really good people joined up. I was perfectly content being on the second tier. That's the great thing about running on a team - if some of the upper tier guys fall out, and they often did, it was up to everyone else to bring up the slack.

Track, however, was annoying because the coaches were your typical muscleheaded closet gays and since it was more open and less demanding as a whole than cross country any slob could join. Some of the worst personalities came out of the woodworks and made pratice a genuinely unpleasant time. Instead of putting up with Dickhead Mc****wad who saw it fit to throw rocks at girls, me and some CC pals would just go out to run, find a clear field and play frisbee instead. Fun times.

Or we'd go to a supermarket and eat cake icing. :3

Yeah, all that running was fun but after junior year I realized I could be doing more - or LESS - and just be lazy after school instead. So I ran cross country senior year for the last time, pulled in some great times and called it quits for winter and spring track to the chagrin of the coaches.

But by that time I was bangin' hos and drinkin' forties so what did I care YEAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

The best of track was staking your spot on the field and hollering at girls.

Now that I think back on it it would have been perfect if we had a keg set up.

I like racing the ROTC kids at my college. I'm not nearly as fast as I was when I was 16 though.

I hate running. And you all should too.

I remember when I had to participate in field days, I was always the last person behind on a team, didn't really care for running. Hated the mile too, it just served to suffocate me. I'd just jog when the coach wasn't loooking.

I need to get myself back into shape so I can run sub 6 minute miles again. It could come in handy. While it just doesn't compare to a fast car or a motorcycle, being able to sprint over 20 mph, and maintain it for at least a few hundred yards, is a very liberating feeling. Nothing like the feeling of air drag against your body, creating all sorts of noises and ripples.

If you can run a mile and a half in 9 minutes or less, you're in really good shape. That's one of the requirements to be in the Marines I believe. I recall that police officers are generally capable of 1.5 miles in 10-11 minutes or so. If you can beat that, you're in good shape.

It would take you about 3 months of training to be able to achieve 1.5 miles in 10 minutes, if you're diligent.

I never did any sports in school, didn't even really participate in gym class. I learned early on I'm not good at any physical activity. Eh. The only time I ever exercised was at Ft. Benning and that ended with me running the obstacle course and doing the first PT test on a stress fracture. Didn't know I had it until the next day when my left shin was twice as thick as my right. Spent the next two months on crutches. So yeah exercise/sports and me don't get along. Sometimes I wish that wasn't the case but it is so whatever.

SirTMagus
12-08-2006, 07:37 PM
Sure, try it out. Not fast though and try not to stop, you shouldn't run fast enough to require a stop. If you wanna build up endurance just jog, not fast, at an easy pace, for 20 minutes or so. See how ya feel.

I think the general rule is you don't start burning calories stored in the fat cells until after 30 minutes.

12-08-2006, 07:47 PM
Sure, but if you're just starting out, take it nice and slow.

I think the general rule is you don't start burning calories stored in the fat cells until after 30 minutes.

Try the calisthenic activities used by the Marine Corps. Exceptions to general rules are great.

Sure, but if you're just starting out, take it nice and slow.

While this tends to be the best course of action for most people(not to mention the safest), I've always started out fast and hard. You can know your limitations better that way, and immediately proceed to set measurable goals.

Ever get shin splints?

Yes. Only wussies complain. If pain surges through your leg, smack it around until it goes away, or alternatively smack something around using your shin as a weapon, like say, a mailbox or a fence pole.

IRC
12-08-2006, 08:50 PM
Well of course the general rule to running wouldn't apply to Marine exercises.

The Toecutter
12-08-2006, 08:55 PM
I've heard of that rule applying to exercise in general, and made the wrong guess as to that being what you intended to convey.

But, you were referring to running exercises only.

Marine exercises are awesome for getting strong as ****, but a very poor choice for bodybuilding.
