    credit card recommendations

So...I've racked up about $3000 in savings on my next car cuz I used GM Card cuz my parents told me that was the smartest way to save money w/ a credit card. Thing is, I was just informed that this is how high they will let you spend on a car.

So, if I want to save $$$ w/ a credit card, I have to move on to something else...so, any suggestions? Not Discover, cuz no one takes that. I'd like something w/ a good rate of return that I can use.

    Thanks much for your suggestions.

I've noticed that Discover is gaining rank with businesses as of late. I have started noticing it accepted in more places, and even in places that American Express and MasterCard aren't.

I'm not suggesting Discover, mind you. I have American Express, and the one thing that angers me about AE is that 7-11 doesn't take it.

I just have a visa. I suppose I should check out how it can save me stuff cause I use it all the time.

I recommend NOT getting a credit card.

If you pay off your credit card payments on time, and don't run up a debt, it's a good thing.

I'm too afraid of having money problems to get a credit card.

Yeah, I'd rather get a credit card than pay 500 dollar deposits on cell phones when I want to start a new plan.

To err is human. To be bankrupt for it is unconscionable.

There have been times when a credit card would have come in VERY handy, like when I see something I can't afford, but I know I'll have the money for in a couple of days (Panzer Dragoon Saga ), but for the most part I stay out of trouble by avoiding them all together.

From what I've seen, 1 credit card is nice to buy things off the internets and get perks, but more then 1 is pretty worthless.

I have a debit card to take care of my internet purchases.

I use my MasterCard debit as credit whenever I can, mostly because I don't want that little processing fee my bank charges on debit.

As far as credit card recommendations go, don't ask me.

                          Re: credit card recommendations

It depends how much you trust yourself with credit. Internet purchases are the one thing where credit cards are better than debit cards. Credit cards have more protection in case someone steals your number and begins making fraudulent charges. With a credit card, all charges can be removed from your account once the problem is detected. With a debit card, that money is gone. Individual banks may cover your losses up to a certain amount, but they aren't required to give you back the full amount.

Additionally, if being charged fees is irksome, shop around for different banks and see what they offer. Some banks will refund certain fees, like the fee charged for using an outside-the-network ATM.

If you're fairly good at maintaining your savings, then it's not a bad idea to have a credit card or two, for making reservations, internet purchases, building a credit history, etc. Incidentally, when building up your credit rating, it doesn't do you any good to pay off your charges each month. You have to have a balance carried over to show a continuous history of payment. Not having this can come back to bite you in the ass, if you're wanting to make a major purchase like a car or home, as it did me.

I use a Debit card. Works great since I can use it like a VISA Credit card online.

I have a Capital One credit card with a $750 limit. I used it to help buy my MacBook, and pay it off, since Apple doesn't trust me with their card.

I also have a Best Buy card with a $600 limit. Used it to help me buy a projector.

I want things now, and I don't want to wait and save money for them. Credit cards are great for people who know what they're doing.

I paid off that MacBook in no time, and I paid off the projector in three months, with no interest.

                              It's not that difficult.
