    A question to ponder...

If you came into this world deprived of your five senses, which one would be the most jarring to suddenly gain?

It would depend on what I was doing at the time of the event. If I was at a concert, then it would be 'sound'...if I was having sex, it would be 'touch'...etc.

Any of them could be jarring, potentially.

Smell.... it would probably make me throw up.

      or sight.

Definitely a toss-up between sight and touch.

As awesome as it would be to behold all of the vibrance of the world at once, there is an awful lot involved in the tactile sense. Wind blowing against your skin, skin against clothes, the feeling of walking and even just my toungue rolling around in my mouth would all hit me at once. Not to mention if I happened to experience multiple textures and feelings at once.

Touch, because with eyesight, you can close your eyes and slowly opening them. You can't close your skin.

The first thing that came to mind when I read the topic was Sight.

I've spoken with people by phone whom I've never met or heard people on the radio that I've never seen. When I actually see them, I'm usually shocked. Now, without having any senses there would be no reference points at all except for ones own imagination.

So, I'll stop blathering on, but regaining your Sight would be a big shocker.

Id say sight or touch, its a close call between the two, one minute everything all black and the next minute everythings bright, if it was the first time I ever saw anything id close my eyes and be scared to open them again....

You should throw a poll up

I always thought the answer to this question would be touch, for many of the same reasons that Postulate Man already stated. You could breathe through your mouth, and not really smell anything, you could put earplugs in your ears, you could close your eyes, and you could not eat anything, but no matter what you do, you will always feel something. The effect of air pressure on your skin alone, just having all your nerve endings become alive all at once, I think would be unbearable. And you could do nothing to stop it or get away from it. To me, it's kind of scary to think about.
