It's Alive! Create Your Own Frankenstein RPG

Now this is either the worst idea for a topic ever and it will die the quick death it needs, or it'll be an interesting chance to examine the subject.

Basically, after I wrote my criticism of FFXII in it's thread by stating that I'd like to see a DQVIII world crossed with a Chrono Trigger battle system made me think about how others would create their perfect RPGs using only the existing parts of RPGs that have been released.

In other words, try to craft your perfect RPG without injecting any original ideas at all, but only by stealing pieces of other RPGs. This probably should be a topic outside the story, since it'll mainly deal with mechanincs. For instance, what sort of magic system would your dream RPG have? MP for each level of magic a la FF1? MP for all levels pooled a la most FF and DQ games? The draw system? The Rune system from Suikoden?

How about development? Single unique regular skill a la FFVI? Single unique limit break a la FFVII? Totally unique set characters a la FFIX? Jobs set (FF1), choice-set (FF3), or choice-sub-choice (FF5)?

I think this'll be interesting to see what people put together.

As for me, (as said) I'd like real world size world map of DQVIII mixed with the on-field encounters of Chrono Trigger (I'd also take Chrono Trigger's ATB and Double and Triple techs), and have development in the form of FF5's Job system (so you'd have a sub-choice). I'm not sure how'd I'd do magic yet. I'm not super fond of the buying magic in stores, but I can't see myself going the Draw system route.

It'd be complicated, but kind of cool.

    Anyone else want to participate?

I would probably go with elements of these:

    FF8 Draw System
    FF6 Esper System
    Vagrant Story Combat System
    Vagrant Story Forging System
    FF7 Limit Break
    Chrono Trigger Dual Attack System

Done just right that could become pretty promising. Though the draw system is one of the most infamous in the FF series, it can be salvagable. Rather than having to draw spells in order to survive later battles, it should be more like a bonus for your stats. And once you use the spell it doesn't ****ing go away! Say, once junctioned to the character the spell is available for use kind of like with the espers in FF6. With VS combat system, use limb damage thing. Being able to forge different weapons would be pretty cool too. The rest is pretty self explanatory.

    Now I feel all nerdy.

I'd making a tacitcs RPG, for sure.

FFT job system and death system (god bless the 3>2>1.)
Phantom Brave basic interface (circles > squares) and weapon effects.
      La Pucelle elements/purification/miracles.
Suikoden Tactics characters (not the characters themselves, but the idea of many unlockable characters) and quest guild.

Phantasy Star IV combo system (Happens in the correct order, isn't a choice)
        FFT Job system
        FFTA guild quest system
        FF8 style story-telling (Laguuuuna)
        Phantasy Star IV-esque music
        Vagrant Story damage system

Really, not to sure on any of that.

FFXII battles and map setup, FFV job system, storytelling style of FFXII but telling a story on par with any compelling RPG story, dungeon design of Radiant Darkness but with the technology to pull it off.

            FFXI's MMO-ness.
            Kingdom Heart's real-time battle system.
            FFT's job system.
            Dragon Quest VIII's balance.
Shadow of the Colossus boss fights.
Armored Core's mech customization and setting.
            ...and that's why.

One thing I really liked about FFVIII and FFX was that the limit breaks for each of the characters was done different (squall had timed trigger hitting commands, quistis had blue magic, etc). If I were to make an RPG I'd make it that all the characters actually played very differently.

That's an odd suggestion coming from a girl. Normally I'd recruit Omni for that.

FFIV: battle system and 5 party members at a time

                        Parasite Eve II: weapon system

                        Wild Arms: dungeon style

FFIV: Each character has their own unique stats that you can't modify

Fallout: post apocalyptic style setting with copious amounts of subtle and not-so-subtle references to the present

                        Chrono Trigger: non-random on-screen battles

FFVI: style of graphics, overall artistic style, screen resolution

Roadwar 2000: vehicles, fuel, and other essentials to keep your party mobile

FFVI: style of world map, but on a smaller scale(eg. the 'world map' will encompass maybe 500 by 500 miles and a series of connected cities and roads, and not a whole world)

                        FFVI: party switching system

Diablo: 'Quest' system to progress the game
