    Ma Musics

No one on SoundClick comments on my music. My friends poo-poo on anything electronic or created on a computer.

Please give me some feedback, because I am trying to get back into making music.

This is my only song of 2006, I think.

This is one I made in 2005, which I like better.

    Mmmhmm.

    NEW:

Alright, here's a new one that's still a work in progress, "Tinderbox":

Another more ambient one, work in progress, "Andy Gordon":

    What program do you use?

I don't listen to a lot of ambient music but it sounds pretty cool. I'm sure Aznable would dig it.

The one from 2005 I rather liked. In a way, it reminds me of Pandable's Amniotic Sea, even if the two songs are completely different.

What did you use to create them?

        Thanks.

I use Reason 3.0. Extremely time consuming, but I think it ends up sounding pretty professional.

Yeah, man - totally. I'm not sure this is a fantastic forum for this type of thing simply because this type of music has a pretty narrow fanbase. I mean, its not super popular so most of us don't have a lot of experience to relate it to.

But it does sound cool and you should always do art for yourself. If you like - do it, man. Most people don't really like the things I make but it makes me happy so they can eat **** and die if they're really gonna be dicks about it.

          So do it up.

Impressive quality. Interesting and nice listening. You should make more than one a year.

Wow, Ike Jacket was actually good. I especially liked the build up at the end. I'm impressed.

I'll listen to some more later.

That SoundClick page it is on holds about every piece of music I've made, dating back to an 8th grade where I was obsessed with Pink Floyd and other 8th grader things...just a warning if anyone's interested in the rest.

Thanks a lot for the comments, I try to go for ambient-ish, though with structure and a modest length so it's not so unapproachable. Translucid, I think I remember you being a music guy so the compliment means a lot.

Your music makes me think of Arovane, and that's a good thing. I acctually like it an awful lot. Let us know when you come out with more, I'd love to hear more.

I've never heard of Arovane, because I'm pretty much oblivious to all electronic music. I'll have to check it out.

And there's some more in the first post.

Yeah, I have a couple more up in case anyone is interested. "Tinderbox" and "Andy Gordon."

                        Re: Ma Musics

I like Tinderbox a lot. There's some discord in it, but I think it's healthy. Seems vaguely unsettling. Reminds me kinda of some of the shorts on Druqks. That's a good thing. Could stand to be a bit longer, bring those "drums" back in. I like, though. A lot.

Andy Gordon - this reminds me of some of my Lunaris era stuff. Which isn't a bad thing. I actually feel like I'm looking back at something I could have written, but didn't. In the same sense that that is positive, however, it is also slightly negative, because it feels a little underproduced, a little rough around the edges, just like Lunaris. The actual composition, however, is top notch. Glad to see others appreciate pure ambient music.

Composition VS Production also underlies how I feel about Ike Jacket. It's good, compositionally, but the drums need a lot of tightening up. A healthy dose of compression might work, honestly, but it might also have to do with the sounds you're using. Not sure that bass fits, either.
You're on the right track here, though.

I like It's Been Done Before a lot. With Tinderbox, they're probably my favorite s of the four. The melody in the background could use some stereo definition and production in general (it feels underproduced to me in the same way that Andy Gordon does), but the entire thing as a whole is really good. You sure do like Lo-Fi, don't you?

                        Anyway, yeah. :3

                          Re: Ma Musics

Thank you for a response like that.

The discord in Tinderbox is something that I don't really notice, but that's probably because my friends have been exposing me to a lot of modal jazz type stuff lately and I'm beginning to have a different ear for how notes can work. I think I agree with bringing the "drums" back in, I always have a difficult time with composition.

Andy Gordon was more of an experiment for me and it shows. I don't usually write purely ambient music.

Ike Jacket was just me going nuts. I could definitely clean a lot of things up.

It's Been Done Before is one I'm going to leave alone, definitely. For me, it's more about texture than melody and I feel obligated to leave some things obscured.

And yes, I love Lo-Fi. My favorite type of music is underground 80's stuff, which is pretty strange considering what these songs are, but little things work their way in.

I just listened to Tinder Box for the first time and I really like it too. It reminds me of Akira Yamaoka's Sakura album a lot, good music. I wish I could give you great music advice like Az, but I don't make music, so I can't really help all too much.
