    MarioTCG

Ok so my foreign exchange bro and I were bored one day so we made this game in under an hour and it turned out really fun actually. It works like this, you set up the cards

    XXXXXXX
    XXXXXXX
    XXXXXXX
    XXXXXXX
    XXE

You start at the top left corner and roll a die, you then count that many cards over as if you were reading text(finishing a line going to start of one below it). Then you pick up that card and do as it says, hopefully you get to keep that spot. After card is read it is either discarded or kept as inventory. If you die you go back to the start but all the cards removed stay removed and their blank spots are no longer spots at all(you don't count them for rolls). To win you have to get the exact number to land on the E(end card) otherwise you just stay still. The game is still in its primitive state, The end card will eventually be of the flag and castle, and more cards like the Tanooki leaf and stuff will be added. I'm also working on some idea for you being able to land on your opponent and get into battle or something

There's more cards than this but didn't want to capture them all. I printed it on this parchment (harry potter like) paper and they look really cool. I should get them laminated.

Tell me what ya think, or add ideas for mario-like cards.

What makes the paratrooper so good!?

I like the idea. It's definitely pretty cool that you'd create something like this.

Things to add: Magic Whistle, Skeleton, Wario, WaLuigi, Peach, Daisy, Birdo, and perhaps one of those potions from Mario 2.

That kinda sounds interesting. So, I guess the Mario and Luigi are just used as markers for two players?

        Hey thanks

Yeah the two character ones are just for place holders on the board to save spots. And I'll do more characters when I get the chance.

Some treasure chests, new enemies, powers, etc....

I'd be more impressed if you drew them yourself. But we all can't be artists.(me included )

I'm tempted to draw myself a tanooki leaf, I can't a find a good image of one anywhere.

How is this a TCG? These wouldn't come in packs of cards, would they? *confused*

I made a mario TCG ages ago. It was pretty fun, but all the cards were handdrawn, so they didn't look so good.

The game mechanics were mostly based on the original star wars card game's location-based system, which made it pretty fun.

              Anyway, yeah.

              man your battle stations
we'll have you dead pretty soon...

Couldn't you tack on any group of images to these cards and get the same effect? Why Mario?

Yes I could of, and even thought how if this were a real game they could do series from all sorts of video games, people could trade their cards and try each other's levels. Yeah Mario does have a lot of convenient graphics available.

Mostly it was that I decided to make a mario game before I decided how the game would work. I wanted the game to be simple yet entertaining and it is. The only thing I wish is that there was more strategy and less luck. More choices. So that's my next thing to implement. Like I said, any ideas? just throw em at me.

the majority of board and card games' mechanics aren't dependent upon the theme/premise.

                      How is this a TCG?
pandable's pretty much right on this one. you would have to add parameters to the cards and tweak the way set-up is done for them to be reasonably put in randomized packs. but it does look good as a static card game.

The only thing I wish is that there was more strategy and less luck. More choices.
good instinct. lots of people make games and don't realize how random the actual outcome is. i tend to apply a "tic-tac-toe" rule to things... if all the strategy that you can apply to the game could be explained in roughly the same amount of words as it takes to explain the strategy involved in tic-tac-toe, your target audience should probably be 8-years-olds and under (which is fine), or you should make adjustments.

examples of games that don't cross the tic-tac-toe line: battleship, solitaire, candyland.
