    Timesplitters 3 Map Making

I felt the Mapmaker was so superb this game, it deserved its own topic!

Anyway, I'm really surprised, the different themes actually change the objects, not just the skins. And the way different objects interact with eachother is amazing. Specifically stackable objects. It allows for making stuff like hangers. And depending on combinations of different peices, odd and unique doodads appear. My favorite section of objects is easy the stackable section, I made this huge hanger as part of a bunker assault mission I was making, and it has this catwalk running through the top with a huge stairwell going up to it.

I'd like to be able and keep track of people's maps though, which is why viewing "friends" maps on the network part is great.

If you guys want to stay current on what I'm working on (a bunker level made for assault, and the Columbine school) you can add my account which is Wreckemer.

The stackable pieces, while nice, are a bit too limited. They can only be stacked directly on other stacks of the same size and, in the case of the small stack pieces, over the "death room". I tried creating a maze of catwalks once, but the normal pieces making up the catwalk on the lower level had ceilings, adding extra paths and widening the paths on the upper level. You'd think that if they would be able to make paths connect no matter how misaligned they are, they would be able to make the stackable pieces stack on any piece. And it really eats up memory when you're forced to use a whole lot of small stackable pieces because one space below or above wouldn't allow for a big stackable piece. Also a shame that unless you can't really control which rooms have no roof (aside from turning ceilings on). Would've been nice if it were possible to get rid of the wall to create a cliff going town into a chasm, like if I wanted to create a haunted hotel over a cliff.

Still, the mapmaker is pretty awesome. Definately in need of improvement, but the maps you can create are pretty nice.

This is a game I think should support the HDD fully.

Heh, I’ve had the game for a week and just now discovered you can view your maps in 3D with the select button.

The mapmaker is great but far too limiting, and I just love how the instruction manual for the game is a whopping 3 pages long, god I hate EA.

And I don't exactly understand how to have ceilings absent from your maps. I use the large open area, the one covering two floors, and sometimes there are ceilings and sometimes there aren’t, what's the deal?

First, you have to use stackables. Then, you have to disable the indoor level option. Also, rooms below a floor with tiles above are automatically roofed.

            I hated the manual.

I really haven't messed around too much with the map editor yet. I really need to spend some time and try to make my zombie adventure.

I love the Mapmaker, and while i havent fiddled with it much in the past few days, i made this (i think anyway) really awesome haunted house level, that at the very top opens up into this balcony area, that is 3 large open rooms, perfect for up close and personal deathmatch, and if you are being outgunned, i have a slide going from the top, all the way to the bottom, for escape, but no health items yet(if i put any at all), so that you have to have atleast a moniker of skill.

I made an awesome Egyptian story mode level, and I'd love to get it to anyone that wants to try it out. OK, maybe it isn't TOTALLY awesome but there is a 1337 monkey squad and a final boss battle that usually end up with many monkeys setting themselves on fire.

I want to make more story levels, as well. I find they are more fun to design than multiplayer levels.

Yeah, multiplayer levels are rather easy. They can be designed in pretty much any way, set a couple random teams at a couple random bases, and if you build the place just right, the computer opponents will act stupid. I created this one nice place where the blue team winds up spending a whole 10 seconds gathering the weapons in their base behind them. And there are weapons in front of their base. And in another place, I've got a really large pit (that you can walk out of of course), and the only way into the pit is to walk up a hill. If any of the computer players are below those hills outside the pit and you're in the pit, they won't know how to get to you. I also couldn't help but notice that if you make a pit that went all the way from top to bottom, even though dropping down to the bottom would kill you, it doesn't hurt your opponents. They also slip through floors if there's a room a level below them and if you're not looking. And if for some reason you put only one starting point in the place, they all try to walk to the center of the space before moving elsewhere. On the plus side, they know not to walk into a death room (I placed a bag, surrounded it with mines, the match started and they all just stood still), except when they're doing that drunk motion they always do when shooting.

I have to get online and try it out. I haven't had time but tomorrow night I will get it up. Do you just need to have the name of the level after that to try it out?

How does online level sharing work? I'm kinda out of the loop when it comes to anything concerning online gaming.

I'm still trying to figure out on creating the storyline, like how to use the triggers in map maker. I should spend at least a day with it playing around with it.

So here's a question...what platforms are you guys making your maps on (PC, PS2, XBox) and do you intend to somehow share them? PC would prolly be easiest, but I don't think it's even out for the PC O_O
