The Legend of Zelda featuring Twilight Princess

Wasn't sure to put this in the Wii topic or what, since it has to do with Twilight Princess (which doesn't have its own topic?!), but it's a great video from Gametrailers.com, via Kotaku, about a big fat theory regarding the Legend of Zelda timeline.

Some stuff I never knew about since I never finished Zelda 2 or Oracle of Seasons and Ages and some stuff I never thought of.

I loved it, maybe you will too.

Needless to say, massive spoilers for nearly every Zelda especially Link's Awakening and Ocarina of Time.

    But not Twilight Princess right?

And for the record the Wii topic is for talkin about the system. You can make seperate topics for games.

I saw that today as well, and it was very well done and thought out.

          Wasn't it?!

And no, absolutely no Twilight Princess spoilers. Just some extremely well-edited moments with perfect music cues.

But if you never played, say, Link's Awakening and Ocarina of Time specifically - and you plan to play them - then I don't recommend seeing this.

            It's pretty good.

But I always figured that Majora's Mask was the one that was in the alternate timeline from the other games. The way I heard it was that the events of MM are the childhood that Zelda gives Link after OoT. That's why all the characters from OoT appear in MM but as different people.

And for me it's sacraligious to say Link to the Past occurs after Legend of Zelda and Adventures of Link. I am part of the camp that says they are the last two games of the timeline and always will be.

If this is the actual Zelda storyline, this makes it seem a lot less dumb.

How can anybody even tell where Zelda I fits in? The only clues you have are that Hyrule is pretty much dead as a country and Zelda has the Triforce of Wisdom.

Guess I'll just have to wait for the video to load and see.

Ganon's in charge. There's yet to be a game where he wins. It's pretty much accepted that Ganon being sealed away in LttP is reference to the ending of OoT. So that pretty much puts the first two at the end of any timeline.

I'm not really into the whole "split timeline" idea at the end of Ocarina. I said this somewhere else, but I figured young Link left Hyrule to let history take its course and in seven years adult Link appeared while young Link is off somewhere else at the time (and grown up). Once adult Link is sent back in time, he no longer exists at that time, leaving only the grown young Link in the world away from Hyrule.

Sure does make me want to try to play through all the Zelda games and see if I can come up with my own theory, though. I've only beaten four of them (Ocarina, Majora, Link's Awakening, and Wind Waker).

But by doing that you're ignoring grown Zelda in the future.

the split timeline is kind of fact, since that guy from nintendo (cant remember his name right now) said it was.

Not really. Young Zelda grew up to help Adult Link. And then she eventually wound up marrying some random prince to continue the Zelda lineage.

Gotta love when someone else posts before you can finish replying to another person. This was meant for Magus.

And besides, it gets too confusing throwing two separate timelines in there. It's hard enough trying to decide on a single timeline.

BTW, I just realized something. According to that video, the Oracle games supposedly take place in the two separate timelines separately. And yet, the two games can be linked via password (in any order), and some characters from the first game carry over and recognize Link in the second game. Though I never got around to finishing either of them, so I don't know to what extent that works.

And how does Zelda 1 and 2 fit in before Zelda 3 or vice versa? Is there any hard proof that it goes either way? I always thought Zelda 3 was the last one since it was the end of the Triforce (or was it Hyrule Fantasy?) trilogy in Japan. Or something like that.
